Foreign Language Interpreter Ii

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Provide direct interpreting services for Non-English, Spanish speaking individuals during medical appointments, with a nurse, provider, nutritionist, and/or other medical personnel.
• Provide New Employee Orientation on Title VI and Foreign Language Interpreter Services.
• Perform various clerical functions to include processing patient medical records, scheduling patient appointments and verifying and updating patient demographics.

Graduation from high school or GED and one year of experience in interpreting and translating English and the required foreign language in a setting that requires a knowledge of the programs or services. Demonstrates fluency and skill necessary to meet the needs of the organization and client populations served.
Management Preference: Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office experience preferred.

Position must have significant knowledge and understanding of the Spanish language and cultural competency and awareness related to the Spanish speaking community. Must be proficient in medical terminology. Must possess the ability to render manually, orally or in writing a Non-English, Spanish speaking client's message with accuracy and thoroughness. Must possess long-term and short-term memory skills. Must be able to practice effective communication skills. Must possess the ability to work as a team with staff and patients, under supervision, as set by departmental policies. Needs to have the ability to use sound judgment and empathy in dealing with patients. Must be able to meet the public and respond effectively to a wide range of behaviors and exhibited attitudes. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instruction.
Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Background check and negative drug test are required.
