Job Description

General Summary of Position
Responsible for the preparation, storage, service, and delivery of food to patients and customers at the Washington Hospital Center.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assembles patient meal trays and snacks, checking tray for accuracy against computer printout of patient menu selections to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Sets up patient food service stations on trayline according to tally sheets or established departmental par levels.
  • Strips food carts and meal trays; sorts and rinses dishes and silverware as preparation to their being washed.
  • Maintains assigned area in a clean, organized and sanitary manner; disposes of trash and obvious clutter as necessary.
  • Prepares, preps, and/or cuts necessary foods for use in patients' meals, the cafeteria, and banquet service according to specified guidelines.
  • Attends in services and other departmental meetings and training sessions as required, including all line up meetings.
  • Stores and displays food and supplies in correct containers and in the proper storage area in accordance with departmental guidelines. Dates, labels, and rotates refrigerated food (e.g., desserts, dairy products, and salad bar items), pastries, and breads in accordance with departmental procedure of first in/first out.
  • Serves cafeteria customers in the serving area, portioning food according to departmental standards and assembling the food and garnish attractively according to departmental guidelines.
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff members by demonstrating the basic duties of the job.
  • Checks and records food and refrigerator temperatures in accordance with established health and departmental policies/standards.
  • Restocks and/or refills all beverages and food products in the cafeteria serving area.


Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • A minimum of 3 years of directly relevant job-related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

  • 6 to 12 months experience, preferably in food service required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires the ability to comply with basic oral and written instructions.
  • Requires the ability to read, write and perform basic addition and subtraction.
