Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
Leadership of FSA’s assigned to the dining room/catering area specifically overseeing: the serving of food using proper portions at the steamtable and the grill area; replenishing the breakdown of the salad bar, sandwich bar, dessert area; overseeing the cashier’s proper handling of cash; and stock/close of the 95th Street Cafe. This is done in accordance with the department’s standards, policies and procedures and with Accrediting Organization and local health department regulations.
1)Ability to check the temperature of the food on the steamtable, making necessary adjustments as needed.
2)Ability to ensure the proper stocking, storing of clean dishes, etc. is consistently done.
3)Ability to ensure the dining and serving areas are clean and organized.
4)Ability to ensure the proper cleaning of the conveyor belt, silverware/tray lowerator, wood grain panels refrigerators and other equipment.
5)* Ability to ensure that all leftovers are covered, dated and refrigerated.
6)Ability to work with staff in each area, as needed.
7)* Ability to monitor catering set-up and deliveries.
8)* Ability to ensure ice cream machine and freezer chest is cleaned and sanitized.
9)Ability to maintain department equipment and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition; maintain product storage in compliance with regulatory agencies guidelines.
10)Ability to ensure that all cash drawers balance and money is deposited either at the cashier office or placed in the safe before going off duty.

1)Ability to maintain adequate supplies of clean dishes, bowls, silverware, trays, etc., are available for the 95th Street Cafe and/or Kid’s Kafe.
2)Ability to ensure the removal of damaged silverware, trays broken and/or chipped from use.
3)Ability to ensure the proper cleaning of serving utensils, steamtables, grills, lowerators, and all other serving and cooking equipment.
4)* Ability to maintain department equipment and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition; maintaining products storage in compliance with regulatory agencies guidelines.
5)Ability to ensure that adequate supplies of clean dishes, mugs, bowls, silverware, trays, etc. are available for patient services and 95th Street Cafe.
Observance of safety regulations regarding careful and correct operations of equipment, transportation of food carts, etc. to ensure efficient and safe operations within the dining room/catering and patient services areas.
1)Ability to observe sanitation regulations regarding hair covering, clean uniform, shoes and personal hygiene to contribute to the overall sanitation program and to present a well-groomed appearance, adhering to established Hospital Appearance Policy.
2)Ability to have I.D. badge worn while on duty, picture visible.
3)Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work area at all times.
4)Ability to perform all work in a safe manner. Ensure all associates use standard precautions in the performance of their duties.
5)Ability to ensure the proper stocking, storing of clean dishes, etc. is consistently done.
6)Ability to ensure the dining and serving areas are clean and organized.
7)Ability to ensure the proper cleaning of the conveyor belt, silverware/tray lowerator, wood grain panels refrigerators and other equipment.
8)Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.
Proper attendance at meetings, inservices and training sessions to broaden knowledge base and to enhance skills.
1)Ability to participate in area meetings, inservices and training sessions.
2)Ability to maintain good attendance and punctuality record.
3)Ability to complete annual competency assessment.
4)Ability to complete all mandatory inservices annually.

Education/Experience Required:
  • H.S. education or equivalent is preferred. - Two years food service experience in a hospital, nursing home or restaurant.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Ability to communicate and be understood. - Ability to interpret customers requests and accurately fill those requests. - Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to become certified in Food Service Sanitation within first 3 months.
Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to walk, stoop, bend, stand for long periods of time. - Ability to follow directions. - Ability to handle a variety of duties. - Ability to work as part of a team. - Ability to interact effectively with staff. - Ability to communicate effectively. - Ability to complete numerous, simultaneous projects within given time constraints. - Ability to achieve and maintain high standards of sanitation and safety. - Ability to lift 10 - 60 lbs. - Ability to have exposure to water and other cleaning materials. - Ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
This requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 08/01/2014. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available. Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis.
