Job Description
Overview:
The Food Applications Manager role is a senior leadership position that is focused on developing the Synergy Food Application (savory, confection, bakery, dairy, nutrition) team to an industry-leading standard. Key accountabilities for this role include effective people management and professional development, evolving product development and food science know-how, strategic thought-leadership, a continuous improvement mindset, and proactive, effective communication with internal and external customers. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with R&D, Sales, and Marketing colleagues to deliver best-in-class customer solutions as well as creative and novel food innovations. The Food Applications Manager position requires a mix of people leadership, strategic input, and a drive for continuous improvement. This role will be the key internal and external point of contact for Synergy’s food product development efforts.

Responsibilities:
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead cross-functional communication and process improvement with Synergy cross-functional partners including Sales, Marketing, and Business Development.
  • Proactive product development of food systems demonstrating the efficacy of our flavors and the overall creative capability of our organization.
  • Serve as a key customer-facing representative for Synergy with all external customer interactions.
  • Deliver proactive growth opportunities for Synergy around emerging market and food science trends such as alternative proteins, taste modulation, and sugar/salt reduction.
  • Inspiring people management including performance management, career development, and mentoring.
  • Deliver strategic input and technical thought-leadership around growth opportunities for people, function, food science, and industry innovation.
  • Leadership role in Synergy’s global strategic platform and communities of practice
  • Roadmap and drive new capabilities in food applications and culinary sciences.
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to interact with customers, account managers and technical staff.
  • Bachelors degree in Food Science or other related applied science; Masters preferred
  • Strong food science and technology background including ingredients, processing, and manufacturing
  • 5+ years progressive people management experience in a food or food ingredient company
  • 8+ years of product development experience in foods, beverages and flavors; 10+ preferred
  • Skilled in Good Laboratory Practice for a food product development laboratory
