Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a part-time Fitness Instructor! Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for leading and delivering group fitness instruction ranging in variety and level from aerobic activity, muscular strength, stretch, dance, yoga or mind body disciplines. This includes developing and organizing choreography, movement sequencing and progression, cueing participants set up, safety, execution, and more. The Student Life & Wellness Center (SLWC) is seeking energetic Fitness Instructors. The instructor must be high energy, motivating, and a relationship builder who will help others reach their goals through exercise while having fun.

Summary Of Responsibilities

• Community.
• Keeps accurate class attendance records.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members, helps others connect with one another and to the UVU
• Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate equipment, storage areas, music, and handouts for each class.
• Leads energizing, fun, safe, welcoming and educational group fitness classes.

Minimum Qualifications

Certified fitness instructor certification (AFAA, NETA, ACE, Fitour etc.) or a specialized fitness certification (Zumba, Les Mills, Yoga, Barre, etc.)

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications

Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications or within one semester of hire date

Certified fitness instructor certification.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

• Skills in interpersonal communication and presenting, particularly with large groups.
• Ability to to multitask and independently time manage.
• Ability to motivate class participants. ?
• Ability to facilitate a positive and inclusive fitness environment. ?
• Knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles. ?
• Organization and Time management skills.
• Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques. ?
• Ability to teach the specified fitness class and cater to individual and group needs. ?
• Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm. ?
• Skills in methods of promoting and increasing fitness in patrons.
• Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.
• Knowledge of methods for promoting and increasing fitness in patrons.
• Knowledge of programs and services in the Student Life and Wellness Center. ?
