Job Description

Summary:

This position ensures the smooth daily front office operations of the fitness center.

Responsibilities:

The position of Fitness Center Assistant provides excellent customer service to guests and visitors by answering general office questions, conducting orientations and tours, and fitness equipment information. This position performs front office duties such as filing, record keeping and maintenance, answering phones, email correspondence, and various other front desk administrative duties. This position also trains and supervises student workers.

Essential Duties:

  • Report malfunctioning machines.
  • Interacts with campus community members and visitors, orients to appropriate resources.
  • Manages office operation under supervision; performs duties and maintains appropriate records pertaining to specific department functions.
  • Enforces safety rules and monitors use of equipment.
  • Provides tours of facilities, orients students, and demonstrates use of equipment.
  • Gathers and maintains statistics and reporting data.
  • Trains and supervises assigned student workers.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned.
  • Provides general office clerical support, including but not limited to client reception and service, filing, calendar management, etc.
  • Maintains confidential records and databases; operates computer systems and various software packages to access and enter a variety of data.
  • Maintains bulletin boards.
  • Minor maintenance and cleaning of fitness equipment.
  • Provides information and clarification about the T-Bird gym and services offered.

Work Environment:

Typical work environment is in an office/gym setting requiring normal safety precautions. Work is usually performed during the normal workday; however, occasional early morning, evening, and weekend may be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings and between schools in various weather conditions. This position frequently interacts with students, employees, and the public.

Physical Demands:

Employee is regularly required to sit, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required. Less frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required (office supplies, paper boxes, etc…). The employee will be around machines with moving parts (fitness equipment), where extra safety precautions will be necessary. Specific vision abilities are close up with the ability to adjust focus.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of front office experience
  • Operate PC and related software applications
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Effectively organize and prioritize assigned work
  • Office equipment such as, multi-line phone, computer, printer, fax, Microsoft office suite, and other related software applications.
  • Perform data entry, maintain records
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other people
  • General office procedures
  • Work with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Write reports, conduct research
  • Work independently with minimal oversight
  • Exhibit good organizational skills
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • FERPA regulations and procedures
  • Knowledge of:
    • General office procedures

  • Ability to:

Desired Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of related work experience in a front office/customer service environment
  • Previous fitness center experience
  • Associate degree or equivalent college coursework and experience
