Job Description

30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography

Duties Description

Assist biologists to promote the protection, management, and restoration of New York State's marine species and these species' habitats. Tasks could include:
1. Fisheries independent sampling:
a. Participate in field work to collect data and/or samples for future analysis (handling dead or live organisms may be required)
b. QA/QC data and enter data into a database
c. Process and analyze samples in a laboratory setting
d. Maintain equipment and supplies
2. Fisheries dependent sampling program.
a. Participation in fishery tagging and data collection programs.
b. Communication with commercial and recreational fishing stakeholders
c. Process Vessel Trip Report (VTR) and angler fishing log data
d. QA/QC data and enter data into Access database.
3. Assist with other Division projects as needed.
4. Occasional office duties such as answering phones, mailings, filing

Additional Comments

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2023. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
