Job Description

Initial Scope of Position:

The Controller will be a strategic thought-partner, and report to the Fortress North America CFO/COO and dotted line to the Compass Minerals Chief Accounting Officer. The successful candidate must be a hands-on finance partner, highly capable in accounting, financial reporting, and modeling, and possess the natural ability to take initiative and drive accountability.

This individual will play a critical role in partnering with the senior leadership team in strategic decision-making and operations. The right candidate for the role will be able to quickly jump into the middle of the action.Responsibilities include (but may not be limited to); accurate and timely record keeping, taking ownership of the company’s financial projections model, developing budgets/projections for various functions, establishing processes for monitoring, and measuring spend, projecting and reporting financial results, working with supply chain, inventories, and leading the charge on all financial reporting throughout the Fortress organization. The right candidate must be knowledgeable of cost accounting in accordance with US GAAP.The candidate must be a strong accountant, possessing integrity with a deep sense of discipline and capable of providing sound financial analysis to the company and its management team.



Specific responsibilities include:

Financial Management:

§ Take responsibility for the monthly accounting close process, including recording journal entries, and account and subsystem reconciliations, with an understanding of the business and financial context of the activity, which may require inquiring, collaborating with, and coaching others to achieve accurate and efficient processing.

§ Oversees the development, preparation, and presentation of monthly financial statements and prepared supporting schedules including associated analysis to explain the drivers of results and identify opportunities for improvement.

§ Prepare documents and data for accurate and complete reporting to Compass Minerals for use by or inclusion in its SEC financial statement filings, investor relations materials, various tax returns, and treasury department requirements.

§ Assist in managing and submitting quality supporting data for efficient audits, special projects, and analysis as required.

§ Analyze and present financial results to management in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate the drivers of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results; collate financial reporting materials for all division/operating groups and oversee all financial projects and programs.

§ Prepare and outline complex models into simple terms that others can work with and manage.

§ Oversee and lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes; administer and review all financial forecasts and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.

§ Collaborate throughout the organization to create budgets and forecasts for the business, including evaluating the future needs of each department.

§ Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.

§ Develop key performance metrics with leadership and circulate them to the management team.

§ Analyze data from ordering, manufacturing, and shipping to identify bottlenecks and seek efficiencies.

§ Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

§ Prepares and assists with special projects.

§ Examines and translates financial information related to specific business decisions, reports on operating results, cash flow, financial forecasts, investments, and related issues.

§ Identifies internal control gaps and design processes to strengthen the control structure.


Qualifications:

§ Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related degree

§ CPA or MBA preferred.

§ At least 8 years of progressive professional experience.

§ The ideal candidate has experience in final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area.

§ Must be an expert in building Excel models ranging from simple to complex.

§ A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills that support and enable sound decision-making.

§ Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize.

§ A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment.

§ Personal qualities of integrity, process discipline, credibility, and dedication to the mission.

§ Expert level problem solver.

§ Ability to take complex data and distill it into understandable content.


Computer Skills:

§To perform this job successfully, an individual must have advanced Excel skills and above-average skills in Word and PowerPoint. Financial and/or numerical database skills and proficiency preferred.Knowledge of NetSuite Financial and JD Edwards ERP systems, Hyperion, One Stream, Power BI, and/or other business intelligence software is a plus.
