: Finance Controller at California Coverage & Health Initiatives

California Coverage and Health Initiatives (CCHI) is seeking a Finance Controller to manage finances and provide financial analysis and guidance to the CEO and Board.


CCHI is a statewide association of community-based outreach and enrollment organizations whose focus is helping under served communities access affordable, quality health coverage and care. CCHI was created in 2007 to provide an advocacy voice and support to the Community Health Initiatives (CHIs) and other organizations in their missions. The association includes local Children's/Community Health Initiatives (CHIs) and outreach and enrollment organizations in 35 counties across California.


This position is responsible for recording financial accounts and records, as well as ensuring compliance with Federal, State, Local, and California Coverage and Health Initiatives (CCHI) rules and regulations. Duties include checking accounting records for accuracy, tracking invoices and payments, and maintaining a system for organizing company documents. The Finance Controller works with the CEO, COO and Board Treasurer in the areas of financial data gathering and financial analysis.


This is a full-time 40 hours per week position, located in Sacramento, California. This is not a remote position. Candidate must reside within commute distance to downtown Sacramento and be able to be in office daily. Travel is required for organization meetings and retreats. CCHI is a small team with a collegial working environment.

Assist in CCHI’s mission to make a difference in the lives of Californians, by joining our dedicated team as the Finance and Compliance Manager.

  • Accounts Payable Processing: record all vendor invoices and prepare bill payments, per approval protocol
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Accounts Receivable: prepare invoices, receive payments, and follow up on aging receivables
  • Maintain project and annual budgets
  • QuickBooks Online (QBO) experience
  • Payroll processing
  • Scanning documentation into the accounting system
  • Minimum three years of experience in compliance, auditing, or risk management.
  • Self-starter and team player
  • Assist with monthly reconciliations and reporting
  • Enthusiastic, with a high degree of initiative
  • Professional with excellent interpersonal & organizational skills
  • Preparation of financial statements and reports for Board.
  • Comfortable with technology
  • Assist with grant proposals to ensure they meet CCHI’s compliance standards and are aligned with our community impact goals and strategies. Complete work in accordance with policies and regulations.

  • Bank and credit card reconciliation
  • Accounting and bookkeeping knowledge and experience
  • Non-profit experience
  • Sensitivity toward cultural, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity, and ability to navigate different points of view and communication styles within a non-profit work environment
  • Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and can work in a fast-paced environment
  • Research regulatory requirements and assist in developing/updating internal policies and procedures to support compliance.
  • Filing and organizing financial records
  • Maintain grant reporting and create a compliance calendar to ensure that finance and other groups meet reporting requirements.
  • Record & classify financial account activity in accounting systems (mainly QuickBooks Online)
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines using excellent time management skills with ease and professionalism
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Assistant with Board financial requests
  • Results-oriented
  • Effective problem-solving
  • Ensure the timely accurate preparation and submission of all CCHI as well as regulatory returns and reports for Federal (including form 990), State, and Local agencies.
  • Annual audit
  • CPA (strongly preferred)
  • Detail oriented and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy
  • Monthly invoices for contracts

Salary Range: $100,000 to $115,000 yearly based on experience.
