Job Description
Introduction

Prince William County is seeking to hire an experienced Field Supervisor in the Construction & Operations Division of the Department of Public Works. This position reports to the Operations Building in Manassas and is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of either a Construction Crew or two Drainage Maintenance Crews. This position is assigned projects from the Assistant Director or Principal Engineer and is the responsible person on site. The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma and a minimum of three (3) years of progressive, full-time experience in the Heavy Construction industry, including stormwater operations, and at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.


ABOUT THIS ROLE
This opportunity serves as either the lead of a construction crew of five members or the manager of two drainage maintenance crews, to perform projects that range from storm water retrofits, to demolitions, small road projects, drainage stabilizations and maintenance, and pedestrian traffic projects. These duties include overseeing projects, managing staff, overseeing the maintenance and care of our equipment and facility, and communicating with upper management regarding procurements. The field supervisor is also responsible for the safety of their operations. Experience in heavy construction, gravity pipe work, the ability to read and interpret plans and use common tools of the trade to produce a finished product from a set of plans is required of this position.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related experience.


PREFERENCES

  • 3+ years of experience in heavy construction with a background in road construction and stormwater
  • 3+ years of full-time supervisory experience that includes directing construction staff


SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
7AM – 3PM, Monday through Friday. However, there are times that overtime is necessary, as well as possibly on-call opportunities.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must obtain Virginia Intermediate Traffic Control Certification within 3 months if not already certified
  • Must obtain Confined Space Certification within 12 months, if not already certified
  • Must be able to obtain a DBIDS Card for access to the Marine Corps Base Quantico
  • Must obtain Responsible Land Disturber from Virginia DEQ within 3 months if not already certified
  • Must obtain Class A CDL within 12 months of employment if not already licensed


STARTING SALARY RANGE
$28.72-$40.00/hour
