Summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Field Engineer for a project we have at Eccles in Washington DC. Responsible for laying out the work and checking installations by company crews and subcontractors for compliance with field engineering standards. Checks all work for compliance with contract documents and coordinates work by subcontractors. Oversee the physical layout of work and coordinate with Chief Field Engineer and Superintendent to ensure compliance with contract specifications by company and subcontractors.

  • Coach and train levels of newer engineers, rodmen, etc., to advance their
  • Research contract documents and review approved shop drawings.
  • Provide grid line offsets and benchmarks for
  • Coordinate with Superintendent and schedule layout crews to perform without
  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings and sketches.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with
  • Attend all required project
  • Ensure safety program procedures are maintained in work

Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Most work occurs on construction sites. Due to daily condition changes on construction projects, when employees are outside of the office trailer or structure they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.

Physical Abilities

Sitting 30 - 50% of time on job.

Critical abilities: standing and walking 50 - 70% of time on job; climbing (stairs and ladders) average 10 times a day; stooping, kneeling, bending 20% of time on the job; repeated use of hands (typing, using hand tools, writing) 20% of time on the job; communicate (talking) 75% time on the job; hearing (phones, radios, alarms, general construction activity) 100% of time on the job; 20/20 vision (natural or with glasses or corrective lenses) and ability to detect small objects; able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (safety glasses, harnesses, hard hats, etc.) every day in required areas on the job; working at heights and in confined spaces 20% of time on the job; working in heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice = 20% of time on the job.

Helpful abilities: able to lift 40 pounds or more; push and pull objects weighing 50 pounds or more; able to identify and distinguish between colors.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
  • Has common knowledge of Algebra, Ordinary Geometry, and Trigonometry and can accurately calculate dimensional data for layout
  • Experienced in using surveying software such as TSI, SMI, and
  • Basic survey skills and knowledge of the correct and safe usage of surveying instruments including total station and equipment.
  • Able to organize people, tools, and equipment and plan/manage multiple activities to accomplish desired
  • Technical training or coursework in surveying, civil engineering, or a related field. Five years of relevant years of experience in the construction industry may be substituted for formal
  • Experienced in blueprint reading and understands contract
  • Has a working knowledge of job site tolerances and checks
