Facilities Engineer II


Facilities & Support Services teams support Ball Aerospace’s 40 properties, over 2 million SF of real estate, in Colorado. This established team of over 90 Facilities professionals is committed to service and support, continuous improvement, and creating and maintaining facilities which enable world class engineers and technicians to create a better, safer, and more informed and productive world.


Ball’s Facilities Engineering team provides facilities designs and engineering guidance across Ball campuses in Westminster, Lafayette, Broomfield, and Boulder. We are seeking a candidate to be a technical expert in your field for the Facilities organization. In this role, the successful candidate will perform engineering duties in planning, designing, overseeing construction, and maintenance of building systems and facilities.


What You’ll Do


  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Assist maintenance and Ball internal customers with Facilities issues or concerns.
  • Develop and maintain standards for design and construction.
  • Work with maintenance, engineering, and contractors to communicate and implement engineering strategies.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Work with maintenance to enhance building system functionality.
  • Review new designs for effectiveness, efficiency, and adherence to standards.
  • Provide engineering guidance to consulting engineers, in-house project managers, and maintenance personnel.
  • Identify system improvement opportunities, plan, budget and manage the improvement portfolio.
  • Take lead engineering role, with responsibilities for multiple disciplines, and be the technical expert on construction projects.
  • Complete design tasks as needed.
  • Develop engineering strategies for systems and components across the enterprise.
  • Monitor and assess impact of regulatory changes related building and systems design.
  • Manage outside design resources needed to execute project designs and studies.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced personnel.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You’ll Need


  • Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computer software; Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • General knowledge of facilities and equipment outside of your discipline.
  • In depth knowledge of facilities equipment and systems within your discipline.
  • Highly analytical critical thinker who uses these skills to examine and improve operations to increase efficiency.
  • Ability to manage own work schedule and make deadlines.
  • Proven track record of collaboration.
  • Knowledge of DDC applications pertaining to building automation systems and design optimization.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
  • Proven history of implementation of safe practices.
  • Experience with design of secured spaces is a plus.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills.
  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Ability to track actions and follow through.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment highly desired.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-orientation.
  • Understanding of construction drawings.

Associate Engineer – Materials & Process


What You’ll Do


  • Perform other duties as necessary.
  • Specify materials and perform or direct laboratory tests on samples of such materials.
  • Develop, evaluate, select, and document materials and processes to meet the engineering design requirements of various devices for use in a wide variety of environments (aerospace, military, commercial).
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Consult with and assist Ball Aerospace and customer organizations (e.g., project, engineering, production, integration and test, etc.) on use of such materials and processes.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Analyze data and generate reports on the results of these tests.


What You’ll Need


  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience in designing with and working with polymers and/or composites.
  • Familiarity with NASA, military or industry specifications, especially materials test (e.g. ASTM) procedures.
  • Understanding of the use and interpretation of data obtained from analytical equipment, including SEM/EDS, FTIR, XRF, Thermal Analysis, tensile/compression or other acquired knowledge.
  • Ability to use computer and associated software to gather, reduce, and disseminate technical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead material and process design investigations, and apply information obtained from laboratory test data.
  • Coursework in simulation and analysis.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well.
