Context of the Job:

Delaware Innovation Space (DISI) is an established non-profit entrepreneurial support organization for scientific start-ups that was enabled through collaboration and support from the University of Delaware, the State of Delaware and DuPont. DISI is seeking a Facilities Coordinator committed to superior interactions, service, and follow-up with the organizations diverse external and internal stakeholder groups.

Under the general direction of DISI’s leadership team, the Facilities Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations of the 130,000 ft2 science facility in support of client research and business operations as well as providing overall support to laboratory operations in collaboration with Laboratory Coordinator. Key responsibilities include optimization of the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the infrastructure of the facilities, management and execution of upgrades to the facilities, driving best in class training, safety and uptime of the facility infrastructure and overall building operations and providing superior and active stakeholder communication.
The Facilities Coordinator will be seconded from the University of Delaware to the Delaware Innovation Space and be on the leadership team of the Delaware Innovation Space and will receive day to day guidance from the Operations Director of DISI and overall strategic guidance from the CEO/President of DISI as well as administratively from MariEileene Keane for UD specific matters.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates general building activities and flow of materials through the facility.
  • Provides support for building condition and day-to-day operational support and engages relevant contractors and support from the site personnel at the Experimental Station to drive high reliability operations.
  • Interfaces with clients on specific facility requirements for equipment installation/move in or move out.
  • Oversees vendor management as required to facilitate third party engagements.
  • Track, schedule, and oversee materials procurement and 3rd party contractors as necessary to complete assigned maintenance and service requests.
  • Manages a dynamic and complex laboratory and collaboration space, with responsibility for the quality and quantity of lab facilities, proper maintenance of laboratory conditions, safety procedures, equipment, instruments and supplies, files, and records.
  • Works closely with clients to rapidly address research needs.
  • Creates training and safety documentation as necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the facilities equipment.
  • Actively manages and communicates facility work request status and outlook to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates clients in general lab safety and waste disposal.
  • Serves as a resource to clients and staff in area of specialization; works with and advises as necessary.
  • Performs job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in laboratory safety systems, protocols, and procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail with focus on job completion.
  • Experience with setting up diverse lab environments including working with high pressure gases & cryogens.
  • Experience with complex building and laboratory system operations.
  • Flexible team player with great communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and four years job-related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of IT systems and network protocols.
  • Willing to work in a multi-structured environment, including daily facilities activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication and analytical skills.

  • Location is 200 Powder Mill Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803
  • Occasionally may be required to lift, push, pull or maneuver moderately heavy objects (up to 40 pounds) during the workday.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
