Job Description
The Certified Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for testing and measuring eye function to assist the Optometrist.


  • Responsible to assist Optician and Patient Services Representative with glass orders, checking in and scheduling patients, contacting patients to fill schedules, edging and mounting lenses, and other duties.
  • Responsible to test patient’s far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, color perception, and measures intraocular pressure of eyes per department protocol.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible to uphold confidentiality at all times in regards to CBHA activities, reports, financials, patient health information and other proprietary information specific to CBHA.
  • Responsible to examine eye for gross abnormalities and reports findings to Optometrist.
  • Responsible to apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes per department protocol.
  • Responsible to test patient’s field of vision, including central and peripheral vision; test corneal topography; and test macular and posterior segment health via OCT scanner.
  • Responsible to promote a positive work culture and upholds clinic policies and procedures, including the WE CARE standards of Behavior.
  • Responsible to provide instructions to patients concerning eye care per provider direction.


Professional and Technical Knowledge


  • Possesses basic level of mathematical knowledge typically acquired through completion of a high school program.


Technical Skills


  • Ability to operate special eye care testing equipment.
  • Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Word.
  • Possesses working knowledge of computer terminals, calculator and telephone.
  • Ability to accurate enter patient data into Electronic Medical Record.


Communication Skills


  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients and the general public.
  • Ensure communication of complex and/or technical information to co-workers and others and ensures understanding by the other party.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and translate both English and Spanish.
