Status: Exempt

Salary: $47,000 - $52,000


ABFE is a 501(c)(3), membership-based philanthropic organization that advocates for responsive and transformative investments in Black communities.Partnering with foundations, nonprofits and individuals, ABFE provides its members with professional development and technical assistance resources that further the philanthropic sector’s connection and responsiveness to issues of equality, diversity and inclusion. Established in 1971 as the Association of Black Foundation Executives, the all-volunteer organization was credited with many of philanthropy’s early gains in diversity. It since has evolved into a fully staffed, influential network. In 2013, the organization shed its descriptor and adopted the simpler ABFE (ab-fee) to better reflect its broadening membership.


Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Vice President of External Affairs, the External Affairs Associate serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external constituencies on all matters pertaining to the department. The associate provides administrative and programmatic support to various team leads including membership, communications, and partnerships. They will also support and oversee special projects. The role provides critical support to the Vice President of External Affairs specifically and the external affairs team in general in their various duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage ABFE job board which includes correspondence with ABFE members and other stakeholders.
  • Support the Vice President on special projects and initiatives and other organizational priorities as assigned.
  • Lead project manager for all External Affairs projects and able to offer support when necessary.
  • Provide high-level support to the Vice President of External Affairs by proactively managing internal and external schedules, travel arrangements, meeting/event logistics, and report updates.
  • Manage written and oral communication with various stakeholders including members, partners, and clients.
  • Serve as primary liaison with other departments at ABFE, specifically for the Vice President.
  • Reconcile and manage corporate credit card and expense reports for the Vice President and other finance related duties.
  • Lead and design External Affairs department meetings & team building activities.
  • Responsible for all day-to-day administrative functions, including meeting notes, operationalizing workflow systems, and developing methods to maintain files and records as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements
