Title: Experienced Buyer (metals experience would be a plus)
Location: Atlanta Metropolitan Area - Georgia (on site role)
Reports to: Purchasing Manager
The Position
Our global client is looking for a dynamic and experienced individual, able to ensure the best quality, cost and delivery conditions while providing an comprehensive pool of managing casting, machining, and forging suppliers, in compliance with company standards.
For this role, metal products knowledge is a plus, where it is expected from the ideal candidate to work independently, managing multiple time sensitive duties. In addition, will identify different sources of commodities and services, evaluate bids, award contracts and purchase orders, develop new products standards and/or services and maintain contact with vendors, while keeping comprehensive descriptions of available metal products and up to date prices.
The ideal candidate will participate in the replenishment and inventory management strategy to support revenue objectives, providing the company with a competitive advantage in the metals distribution arena. Will also serve as a supply chain liaison for specified product lines
and will maintain strong relationships with suppliers to influence the ongoing optimization of inventory levels.
The Senior Buyer will act as a team lead for specified metal product lines, working interdepartmentally with different internal stakeholders, to execute inventory goals & objectives.
This position will act as a point-person for buyer training and development, problem
resolution and may be requested to participate in new buyers selection.
The actual title for this role may vary based on candidate's experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Escalates vendor performance issues, increased pricing, vendor shortages, etc.
- Develops and manages key relations and drives continuous improvement activities with suppliers (vendor performance monitoring, pricing, shortages, contract terms & conditions enforcement, non-conformances solutions)
- Other duties assigned
- Manages continuous improvement activities with suppliers to drive on-going improvements
- Manages and execute the purchase order process through delivery, in close partnership with key internal clients
- Manages the selection and set-up of new vendors, including surveys, certifications, capabilities, and qualifications
- Works with internal clients to resolve supplier-related business issues
- Analyzes purchase requirements through forecasting methods and/or material requirements planning guidelines (MRP's)
- Utilizes professional and technical concepts in accordance with Company objectives to solve complex problems creatively and effectively
- Creates, places, and manages the purchase order through delivery, communicating delays on delivery to internal customers
- Conducts inventory analysis for excess and obsolete materials
- Acts as a trusted advisor to Engineering and Sales teams
- Leads sourcing and negotiation for outsourced products/services on assigned commodities, with a cost control mindset
- Manages inventory levels / inventory turns according to department inventory policy
- Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods for obtaining results utilizing critical thinking and evaluation skills
- Manages the request for quotes (RFQ) and award process on new and existing products
Education, Experience & Qualifications
- Business Associate or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering or equivalent experience
- Lean Six Sigma, APICS and/or CPM certification are an asset
- Technologically and systems savvy individual with a good working knowledge of ERP system (experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus), as well as advanced Excel skills including formulae and functions
- Minimum of 5 years of procurement/purchasing experience in manufacturing environments, metal products experience a plus. Automotive or fabrication manufacturing industry preferred
- Must have sourcing / negotiation and supplier development experience
- Outstanding communication, leadership, organizational, people and problem-solving skills
