About The Department


The Student Centers serve as the core community building and special events spaces at the University of Chicago in Bartlett Hall, Ida Noyes Hall, Mandel Hall, and the Reynolds Club. The Student Centers play a formative role in the Campus and Student Life goal of creating a comprehensive and integrated network of services that support the academic mission and facilitate student learning, engagement, and success. The primary goal of the Student Centers is to complement the academic mission of the University by enhancing the daily lives of students by creating environments that build community. The commitment is to provide the campus community with high quality services, programs, activities, and facilities that complement the University's academic mission.


Job Information


Job Summary


Under limited supervision, the Event Services Worker performs duties related to the preparation and support of and recovery from scheduled events, meetings, and programs at Bartlett Hall, Ida Noyes Hall, Mandel Hall, the outdoor Quads and the Reynolds Club as well as performing miscellaneous and general duties as described below.


Responsibilities


  • Performs any and all duties of lower classifications in same occupational group.
  • Evening and weekend overtime hours will be required.
  • Hanging and removing banners from the Market Place.
  • Occasionally shoveling snow and spreading salt around entry ways, removing trash and recycling from bins, and assisting with the operations of Ida Noyes Hall, the Reynolds Club, Mandel Hall and Bartlett Hall.
  • Moving furniture and equipment.
  • Opening Ida Noyes Hall, the Reynolds Club or Bartlett Hall, setting up/taking down, tables, chairs and other equipment in the Market Place and other Reynolds Club, Mandel Hall and Bartlett Hall areas.
  • Cleaning all assigned areas within and around the Reynolds Club, Bartlett Hall, Ida Noyes Hall and Mandel Hall; performing special cleanings periodically.

Additional Requirements


Education, Experience, or Certifications:


  • High school diploma or GED required.


Experience


  • Housekeeping experience in an educational environment preferred.


Working Conditions And Physical Requirements


  • Correctly and safely use all associated tools.
  • Perform duties requiring continuous physical effort.
  • Lift and manipulate objects of up to 75 pounds and transport for 50 feet.
  • Operate motorized floor care equipment.
  • Push up to a maximum of 200 pounds without assistance.
  • Move about the campus in all weather conditions.
  • Work around dust and cleaning chemicals.
  • Working hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm.
  • Some standing, bending, twisting, climbing.


Pay Range


  • $18.02 - $21. per hour.
