Job Description

We’re a small startup with founders passionate about both mental health and the military community, with a team located across several states. We’re looking for someone who can be our “boots on the ground” at Fort Campbell, along with our CEO who’s in Clarksville.

Description

Pay: $20/hour + Community Growth Bonuses
Role-type: Part Time Contract to Hire / 10 Hours/Week
Reports to: CEO/Cofounder
Location: Fort Campbell, TN

About Swell:
Swell is on a mission to improve mental health through preventative programs and accessible treatment. We envision a world of healthier, happier, kinder, and more mentally resilient people. We’re making this world possible through evidence-backed technology built around both treatment and prevention.

Launched in January of 2023, our flagship product, Therapy+ is a mobile-based telehealth therapy application, intended to help military members and spouses access evidence-based mental health therapy when they need it, covered by Tricare. Our platform combines traditional 1:1 video therapy sessions with a mobile application designed to enhance skill adoption outside of the session, and reduce the overall time-to-benefit in therapy.

We’re currently developing our next product, which is a self-guided program that helps you improve your own mental health for people who aren’t quite ready to talk to a therapist yet. We’ll be launching our first 2 programs later this year.

We’re a small startup with founders passionate about both mental health and the military community, with a team located across several states. We’re looking for someone who can be our “boots on the ground” at Fort Campbell, along with our CEO who’s in Clarksville.

This role:
We believe companies are better when they look like the communities they serve, which is why we have a preference for hiring military spouses and veterans. Our ideal candidate for this role is a military spouse, currently stationed at Fort Campbell, who will most likely* be there through the end of 2023. They are passionate about building community and have a desire to see mental health improve among military families.
  • We understand that unfortunately, timelines can be hard to predict with the military.

What you’ll do here - High Level:

  • Find milsos to come to the events
  • Plan and Host 2 events per month for milsos
  • Be a brand ambassador for Swell

About you:

  • Very self-motivated - you can plan your day/week/month to make sure you’re able to meet goals without a lot of oversight (our team is full of support, just not a lot of close management)
  • You’re passionate about mental health, and comfortable talking about it (with a therapist to guide content)
  • A natural community builder (you’re comfortable pulling people in and bringing folks together)
  • In addition to being great at taking initiative, you can figure out how to do something without being given step by step instructions (we love collaborating! but startups are busy places so autonomy is key)
  • You want to work in a startup (it’s fast-paced) and grow with Swell over the next few years
  • Experience with event planning, or social media advertising/marketing is a plus
  • You have empathy in spades
  • You share Swell’s vision and want to be a part of making it a reality
  • Are a self-starter who doesn’t need to be directed to solve a problem - you feel a sense of ownership and pride in your work and are quick to jump in and own things to completion
  • You’re creative and love planning events that people really wanna come to

Note: We’ve never put on an event before - when you join, you’ll need to quickly become the expert in putting on successful events at Fort Campbell.

The details:

  • Examples: Self Care Night, Sip & Paint, Mental health movie night, Yoga class/workshop
  • Drive sign-ups into Swell’s fort campbell community through events (like a self-care night at the USO), on-base marketing (think a table in front of the commissary with a sign-up sheet), and networking in existing milso groups on social media
  • As we build up our community presence, you’ll support specific cohorts (milso’s without kids, SAHMs, working moms, etc) and help create sub-communities where we can tailor events and newsletters to each group
  • Write a monthly community newsletter
  • Provide engaging text, image and video content for social media accounts
  • Send out event reminders
  • Post in local Facebook groups advertising for local community events hosted by Swell
  • Events might have snacks/beverages (alcoholic or nonalcoholic), a connecting activity, and conversation around emotional support and wellness.
  • Foster community through the development of community groups and events created to drive connection and boost the milso support system while improving mental health and helping Fort Campbell learn about Swell
  • Tactical event management (plan, coordinate, and host events on base for Swell)
  • Creative event management (coming up with ideas for events that are likely to get a lot of attention and interest)
  • Act as the face and voice of our brand

We don’t require you to have held a certain title or have a specific number of years of experience. We want you to apply if you’re a good community builder, and if you believe you can do this job well.

Hard Requirements:
  • Must have access to Fort Campbell

Comp Structure:
Compensation: $20/hour + community growth bonus
Community Bonuses:

  • $50 for every 25 community signups
  • $1,000 bonus for every thousand new members
  • $1 for every event attendee

Expected hours: 5 hours/week for the first month, then 10 hours/week. There's an opportunity to grow this role into a full time position for the right person.

Individuals of all colors, backgrounds, religions (or lack thereof), sexual orientations, and gender identities who are passionate about helping bring better mental healthcare to the military community are encouraged to apply.
  • Note on compensation - to keep things fair and balanced across our team, we decide on compensation for roles upfront and then communicate it transparently. This way salaries aren’t dependent on negotiating skills or subjective traits that leave room for bias. At Swell, salaries are standardized for each role and level within the team, and printed on the job post.
