The System Equity & Inclusion Consultant serves as liaison and consultant on organizational equity and inclusion effectiveness. The consultant uses subject matter expertise to recommend and coordinate interventions to address identified issues for system hospital and ambulatory entities and departments. This role will support and develop programs/initiatives that span multiple system entities and departments and will ensure successful execution through project/program planning, monitoring, progress reporting, and completion of projects in line with project plan.

Working closely with department leadership, system-wide colleagues, and community contacts/third parties, the consultant will support health equity and community engagement throughout the system.

Under the direction of the Health Equity Programs Manager, the Consultant will assist in the development and implementation of health equity initiatives, including, building internal and external capacity to address the root causes of health inequities through planning, implementation, and evaluation of processes. Provides leadership, in a team approach, to address local community efforts addressing health inequities and disparities. Tracks and coordinates health equity activities. Assists in the development of internal and external communication strategies on health equity.

Responsibilities:

  • Health Equity: Supports and executes system-wide strategies to further the Equity and Inclusion Department (EI) strategic priorities and goals to eliminate inequities in the access and delivery of health care to patient communities. Collaborates with UNC Health leaders and colleagues to identify patient care needs in access and delivery of health care.
  • Community Engagement: Supports and executes system-wide strategies to further the Equity and Inclusion Department (EI) strategic priorities and goals to improve the health of the communities we serve. Collaborate with leaders and stakeholders across the system to identify opportunities to engage community partners and to develop and expand partnerships that support EI initiatives.
  • Communication: Respectful interactions with diverse people in a variety of settings. Effective oral communication with individuals and groups. Speaks clearly, listens and requests clarification, responds appropriately to questions. Demonstrates group presentation skills, participates in meetings. Writes clearly and informatively, edits work for spelling and grammar, varies writing style to meeting needs, presents numerical data effectively, able to read and interpret written information.
  • Community Leadership: Build relationships with local community partners to identify and advance local community policy and program agendas. Collaborate and provide technical assistance to internal and community partners and coalitions. Participate in community coalitions.

Other Information

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
Professional Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum one (1) years’ experience working in healthcare industry
  • Minimum one (1) years’ experience initiating and developing projects/programs/initiatives in a complex organization
  • Minimum three (3) years’ of Equity and Inclusion experience (e.g. health disparities, health equity, and workforce diversity) concepts and programs, which should include:
  • Minimum one (1) years’ of training and facilitation experience
Preferred Experience:

  • Working with historically underrepresented groups
  • Experience in one or more of the following: health equity, inclusive workforce, instructional delivery, and/or community engagement
  • Facilitating challenging conversations amongst group
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

  • Strong project management skills to handle complex projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and electronic learning tools (webinar, telepresence, electronic poling, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Manages conflict and solves problems effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to travel within the State of North Carolina required
