Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Public Health or related field required; supplemented by three (3) years of epidemiologic work experience in a public health setting.
Specific License or Certification Required: None.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to the investigation, control, surveillance, and prevention of communicable diseases including planning and implementing programs to prevent and/or control diseases, outbreaks or other chronic or communicable diseases. Epidemiologist II is distinguished from Epidemiology Manager in that the former is responsible for the investigation, control, and prevention of communicable diseases, in addition to providing consultation, training, and technical assistance to other health care providers, whereas the latter is responsible for the management, investigation, and prevention of communicable diseases, including directing the Fulton County Government's response to disease outbreaks or other catastrophic events.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Conducts investigations of communicable diseases, including providing information on the control and prevention of chronic and communicable diseases.
Collects, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares required and requested epidemiological reports.
Provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to employees, community organizations and other health care professionals, on disease risks, control, and prevention.
Performs various support duties in assigned divisions, including serving as on-call epidemiologist, completing assigned projects, and developing and/or recommending programs and procedures for special projects.
Researches, maintains, and utilizes current information on communicable diseases and prevention.
Prepares reports and statistical data for evaluation and interpretation purposes to determine potential risks from exposure to potential diseases.
Attends various committee meetings as assigned.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving broader aspects of organizational programs and operations, moderately unstable situations, or the direction, control and planning of an entire program or set of programs.
