Leidos is currently seeking a dedicated Project Environmental Scientist to join our team. With environmental projects across the U.S. you will have the opportunity to make a difference in various communities.

**This is a remote position, with travel to customer sites to complete field projects as needed; anticipate up to 50% travel. Must possess a valid driver's license. Position also requires passing background checks, obtaining access to, and conducting work on, U.S. Government installations. Due to contract requirements, must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.


As a Project Environmental Scientist, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing environmental investigation and remediation projects. This includes directing field and office task teams, planning and coordinating field investigations, data analysis and interpretation, and providing technical support to projects. You will work independently with Leidos Project Managers and Senior Staff, supervise junior staff, and interface with multiple Leidos offices and subcontractors. Excellent organization, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders are essential to success in this role.

Your Main Objective:

  • Compile, interpret, and report data to meet project quality assurance requirements under Federal (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA), state, and/or client programs.
  • Manage and direct field teams to execute field activities, including interface and coordination with client facility operations staff to conduct onsite field activities (e.g., dig permits, airfield operations, security, and badging).
  • Develop sampling and analysis plans, waste management plans, subcontractor statements of work (e.g., drilling services, surveying), procurement of materials and supplies for field investigations, scheduling and staffing of field investigations.
  • Manage and execute project tasks as assigned, including cost/schedule, coordination and logistics, oversight of field investigations, and project deliverables.
  • Support preparation and presentation of project findings to clients, regulatory agencies, and the public.
  • Prepare technical reports, including complex technical analysis, conceptual site models, and visual data presentations, including maps, cross sections, and data tabulations.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Interpretation and analysis of chemical, geotechnical, geologic, and/or engineering data to address project/reporting requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or related field, and at least five (5) years relevant experience, or a Master's degree and at least three (3) years relevant experience.
  • Prior completion of OSHA 1910.120 hazardous waste worker certification (40-hour HAZWOPER) and current HAZWOPER 8-hour refresher allowing the performance of fieldwork at hazardous waste sites.
  • Proficiency in M.S. Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint).

You Might Also Have:

  • Prior completion of OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety training.
  • Experience with federal and state environmental regulatory requirements (e.g., RCRA and CERCLA investigations) and process documents (e.g., PA/SI, RI, Corrective Action Plans/Reports; Proposed Plans, Records of Decision).
  • Prior completion of HAZWOPER Supervisor Training.
  • Professional credential or progress toward obtaining certification in a field of specialty (e.g., P.G., GIT, EIT, Certified Soil Technician, CPSS, etc.).

Pay Range:

Pay Range $66,300.00 - $102,000.00 - $137,700.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
