POSITION INFORMATION

Title: Environmental Scientist
Direct reports: No
Reports to: Project Manager
Location: Charleston, SC

HOW YOU’D SUPPORT BAY WEST

  • Occasionally supervise the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells and treatment systems
  • Collect and classify soil and groundwater samples during site investigation and remediation activities
  • Assist project managers in authoring reports that communicate analytical results and site progress to clients
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, both orally and in writing, in a courteous and professional manner
  • Review and organize quarterly, semi-annual, and annual monitoring data
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Prepare soil boring logs, hydrographs, groundwater contour maps, field notes, sketches and other documentation of actions during site investigation and remediation projects
  • Practice open communication and cooperation to achieve common understanding with team members of similar and other disciplines
  • Conduct Land Use Control Inspections
  • Convey an appropriate demeanor in both internal and external business settings
  • Manage assigned tasks on time, within budget and in accordance with project and contract documents
  • Understand and comply with Bay West's corporate and project specific health and safety plans and procedures
  • Oversee the excavation of contaminated soil during remediation and construction projects
  • Communicate directly with Site Supervisors and Team Leaders on ways to improve Bay West's techniques, operations and functions

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification - Bay West will support certification for the right candidate, if they do not have this prior to hire
  • Ability to work independently
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Geophysics, Geobiology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, or Engineering
  • Position requires frequent standing, walking, lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, bending, & grasping and other physically demanding activities
  • Must be able pass Federal background checks needed for installation access
  • Ability to work outside in any condition which can include high heat, high humidity and extreme cold
