Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers’ Environmental Division provides planning, permitting, engineering, site assessment, and corrective action services to clients. Across multiple industries, our diverse staff specialize in the areas of environmental planning, air, water, waste, ecological and cultural resources throughout our 45+ offices located across North America.

We are seeking a highly motivated Visual Resource Specialist/Environmental Planner Intern in our growing Boise, Idaho office in support of our Pacific Environmental Planning/Project Management Department for Summer 2024. The selected candidate would join a team of more than 300 environmental professionals across the U.S. This position would assist the Visual Resource/Environmental Planning Team on electrical infrastructure and renewable energy generation permitting projects in the Pacific Northwest and across the country. This temporary position for 8 to 12 weeks is intended to provide insights into an environmental consulting career specializing in environmental planning career with a focus within the Landscape Architecture profession performing siting, planning and permitting for renewable energy and electrical infrastructure projects.

In addition to working under the guidance of experienced team members, the selected intern will also participate in sessions designed to develop your skills and provide networking opportunities. Those sessions include:

• Early Talent Speaker Series where leaders speak to interns about their role, their vision for the company, and their career path, offer career advice, and a Q&A session.
• Fun Friday activities where interns company-wide join to network and have some fun while doing it.
• Professional Development sessions focused on resume writing, interview tips, building a LinkedIn profile, and more.

Required Education/Experience

• Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience working with visualization and GIS teams in the development of photo simulations, animations, maps, graphics, and other communication tools
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team and collaborative environment.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
• Ability to travel to perform field assessments (drive, walk, hike) to collect data on existing visual conditions and evaluated potential visual impacts of energy infrastructure projects consistent with applicable agency guidelines and methodologies
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning, or other related field.

Desired Education Experience

• Knowledge and experience with Google Earth, ArcGIS, digital SLR cameras, and GPS equipment is a plus.
• Ability to do aerial imagery interpretation and understand engineering drawings and topographical maps
• Knowledge and interest in federal, state, and local environmental policy and regulation, particularly federal visual resource management methodologies (Bureau of Land Management [BLM]-Visual Resource Management [VRM]; U. S. Forest Service [USFS] Scenery Management System [SMS]; Bureau of Ocean Energy Management [BOEM] visual impact methodology; Federal Highways Administration [FHWA] Visual Impact Assessment Guidance)

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $21 - $26 per hour; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
