Job Description
ERG seeks an environmental analyst to support a range of environmental analysis and data projects, primarily supporting the US Environmental Protection Agency. The analyst may also lead or manage projects; ERG will support development of project management skills. Our practice supports a wide variety of projects for a variety of clients. Recent and ongoing projects on our team include reports on national and international releases of toxic pollutants, quantitative analyses supporting the development of environmental regulations, and research for and development of a data exploration tool for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).


Responsibilities For This Position Include


  • Analyzing and presenting data on specific environmental issues, industries, facilities, and geographic regions
  • Writing to present analyses and to convey results to diverse audiences
  • Characterizing trends; generating tables, charts, and other visualizations
  • Managing project budgets and schedules
  • Researching various scientific and technical topics
  • Accessing environmental databases
  • Communication with clients
  • Learning about and working on a range of environmental topics as an active part of a multi-disciplinary team
Job location is flexible, with preference for ability to, on occasion, be in our offices in the greater Boston or Washington, D.C. areas.


Requirements For This Position Include


  • Strong problem solving and data analysis skills, including ability to research issues and obtain critical information for further analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Conversant in basic chemistry concepts (i.e., two semesters of general chemistry coursework)
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in science, engineering, or a closely related field. Master’s degree or advanced coursework are preferred
Desired, but not required attributes for this position include:


  • Programming in statistical software packages (e.g., R)
  • Advanced coursework or experience in chemistry or chemical engineering
  • Experience in project management (1-5 years)
  • Knowledge of emerging environmental issues, environmental justice, and U.S. and state environmental regulations
  • Coursework or experience in environmental science, biology, and/or toxicology
  • Experience developing written and other products for technical and non-technical audiences


The salary for this position ranges from $63,000 to $75,000, depending on years and type of experience.
