Job Description

Morrison Foerster LLP, an Am Law 50 law firm with 18 offices worldwide, has an opening for an Entry-Level Paralegal within our National Security Group in our Washington, D.C. office.

The Opportunity

It's an exciting time to join our high-profile National Security team in this unique Paralegal role!

General Paralegal Responsibilities

  • Comply with administrative requirements to meet billable expectations; prepare and release timenotes on a daily basis; prepare and submit timecards on a weekly basis.
  • Identify issues and consult with others to resolve problems.
  • Develop and apply organizational skills to prepare work product and ensure efficient workflow within and among teams and departments.
  • Identify resources to increase efficiency in preparing work product.
  • Follow established procedures and clearly-defined instructions to complete assignments; develop skills in identifying resources to increase efficiency and ensure highest quality work product.
  • Develop and apply basic knowledge and procedures to complete assigned projects and tasks; develop proficiency in technology relevant to the position.

National Security Responsibilities

  • Perform miscellaneous tasks and research projects as directed by attorneys by navigating online platforms and other resources.
  • Assist with client matters related to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (“CFIUS”), such as required filings with CFIUS and general research.
  • Draft articles, alerts, and other thought leadership on wide spectrum of national security issues, including economic sanctions, foreign direct investment, foreign influence, export controls, and cyber security.
  • Draft and distribute weekly news bulletin of articles related to sanctions, export controls, critical technologies, cybersecurity, CFIUS and Foreign Agents Registration Act (“FARA”).
  • Assist with client matters related to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”), such as filing and tracking license applications filed with OFAC.
  • Track and monitor progress of projects and provide regular status reports; assist other practice areas with paralegal tasks as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a top school with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Please include GPA on your resume.
  • Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects and work effectively under pressure and thrive in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to commit to at least two years before law school or other ventures.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet business and client needs.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and resolving issues proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to research, synthesize, and communicate large amounts of complex data.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Specific interest in policy and legislation strongly preferred.
  • Flexibility to travel may be required.
