Job Overview:

The Entry-Level Geologist/Environmental Scientist will support our Remediation team in our Charlotte, NC office. We are seeking motivated candidate who would like to develop and advance in a full-time environmental remediation career. The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to conform to AECOM travel policies, including ability to obtain and hold the AECOM corporate credit card for use in making travel-related purchases. Must demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.
  • Environmental Staff Scientist/Geologist will support execution of projects involving soil and groundwater investigation, compliance, and remediation activities in accordance with the Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, or other regulatory programs.
  • Maintain the required AECOM-related documentation and forms.
  • Providing field services for site investigation, drilling, UST removal, soil, air, and groundwater sample collection, and related work.
  • Provide office support for data management and report preparation; and
  • Field tasks may require ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Substantial (50-75%) out of town, overnight travel required. Ability to travel out-of-State (NC) to complete field work (potentially >10 days or longer). Position is based in Charlotte, North Carolina and will require overnight travel primarily in the Mid-Atlantic States (primarily NC, VA, SC).
  • Assisting Project Managers in efficient execution of project scope of work on time and within budget.
  • Ability to work independently with diverse staff in office and non-office setting (i.e., outdoors, undeveloped/wooded areas, year-round).

Qualifications


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Valid US Driver’s License is required


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire to contribute to a dynamic team, while having the ability to work independently
  • Non-office/field skills: Mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills
  • PG License/tract to obtain
  • Geophysical instrumentation/interpretation experience
  • Report writing, data organization, and presentation skills
  • Aquifer testing, groundwater/fate and transport modeling experience
  • Good communicator, self-motivated, good mechanical aptitude, and competent use of safe-work behaviors
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training (29 CFR 1910.120) is preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel; Access is a plus)
  • CADD / ARC-GIS preferred, not required
  • Must be able to write and convey thoughts, and organize data in an efficient and clear manner; have excellent attention to detail; effectively multi-task
  • 1+ years of environmental experience (Experience in soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well drilling, and construction management)
  • Understanding and application of the fundamentals of schedule and budget management to project tasks
  • Ability/willingness to travel and perform field work as needed
  • Strong math and/or data analysis skills

  • Candidates may be required to enter AECOM medical monitoring program and/or additional medical compliance as applicable to meet client requirements throughout duration of position.
  • Candidates may be asked to submit a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) screening, dug test, and/or medical surveillance screening may be required at the time of hire.
  • Travel is required for this position.
