Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The English Teacher at PCYC will create a positive learning environment that facilitates the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. As an Alternative High School in North Minneapolis, we serve inner-city Minneapolis young people who often face significant barriers in life as they strive toward full growth and active citizenship. Teachers work closely with parents, the administration, other staff, other PCYC programs, and the Minneapolis Public Schools, under moderate supervision.

WAGES AND BENEFITS: $46,000 - $57,000 annual salary depending upon experience; medical insurance, dental and vision insurance; employer contributions to a Health Savings Account; participation in the agency-sponsored retirement plan; employer-paid life insurance; long-term disability insurance; paid school break time and additional personal days.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Educational Leadership Team concerning issues of student achievement, behavior, attendance and/or suspension consistent with PYC policies and procedures.
  • Participate in various staff, team and committee meetings and share in additional responsibilities that come from these meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Educational Leadership Team and peers to plan, develop and implement best practices based on the needs and abilities of the students.
  • Maintain thorough and continued awareness and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), 504 Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Identify individual student needs and differentiate curriculum as needed.
  • Develop and implement curriculum that is inclusive of the arts and technology.
  • Provide coverage in other classrooms as assigned.
  • Ensure effective and timely feedback for students.
  • Maintain a school and classroom environment that promotes education and is safe and respectful of all.
  • Accurately complete attendance records and incident reports.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher required.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to teach the required curricula.
  • Adept at both verbal and written communication on an interpersonal or group level.
  • Has a high level of competence in computer applications and can use resources effectively as needed.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively and in a positive manner with adults and youth from diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Skilled at prioritizing work with multiple competing demands.

Licenses and Certificates:

  • Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PCYC’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state and working remotely).
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license, certificate or other legal credentials required for level of assignment or ability to be waivered by the Minnesota Department of Education.
