Job Description

Job Summary:Reporting directly to the Academic Coordinator, instructors are responsible for guiding English-as-a-second-language learners towards increased language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. An instructor is responsible for teaching all classes as assigned.


Successful instructors are

  • Well-prepared for all classes, implementing the Internexus/Antares curriculum as interpreted in the Teacher Handbook and towards the CEA accreditation guidelines;
  • Adhere to all Internexus/Antares policies, in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom,
  • Attend instructor meetings, and participate in Living Language Labs, and other Center activities.
  • Keep accurate records, i.e., student attendance, grades, and lesson plans;


Responsibilities

  • Assessing students’ accomplishments on a regular basis, providing progress reports as required.
  • Guiding students' learning process toward the achievement of established Internexus/Antares curriculum goals and towards the CEA accreditation guidelines.
  • Establishing and communicating clear objectives to the students for all lessons.
  • Following a code of conduct at all times for the classroom that is consistent with established administrative policies.
  • Preparing for classes and showing written evidence of preparation upon request of the Academic Coordinator.
  • Creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the students’ maturity, interests, and abilities.
  • Striving by instruction and action to employ the Internexus/Antares philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives, and performance expectations.
  • Attending instructional meetings
  • Providing appropriate communication with students on instructional expectations
  • Maintaining an ongoing program of professional development
  • Participating in in-service and staff development activities
  • Developing rules of classroom behavior and enforcing them in a fair and just manner.
  • Employing a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including current technology and whole-group, small-group, and individual learning.
  • Seeking the support of the Academic Coordinator when concerns regarding student progress arise.


Qualifications

Education

Minimum: TESL certification.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, TEFL, ESL, or related field from an accredited institution; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with coursework as shown on a transcript for the areas of language teaching methodology, the nature of language/linguistics (e.g. introduction to linguistics), the structure of English (e.g. syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse), second language acquisition (SLA), intercultural communication (e.g. sociolinguistics, cross cultural studies) and a supervised practicum.

Strongly preferred: master’s degree in TESOL, TEFL, Linguistics, Language Education or a closely related field.


Experience

Minimum: Supervised practicum in an education program

Preferred: Two years of ESL or FL teaching experience
