We're hiring an Engineering Technician Aide for the Surveyor's Office that will be working on a project in the field to collect GPS data. This position will require use and proficiency with basic surveying instrumentation.

The Hennepin County Surveyor's Office maintains and preserves the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) throughout Hennepin County. The office also provides surveying services for the County including the Department of Transportation, Examiner of Titles, Regional Railroad Authority, Property Services and Tax Forfeited Lands.

Location and hours:

This position is located at the Hennepin County Government Center at 300 6th South, Minneapolis, MN 55487 with field work performed throughout the county. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

About The Position Type

This is a limited duration, full-time (temporary up to 2 years), benefit earning position.

This position is internally classified as an Engineering Technician Aide.

In This Position, You Will

• Assist in conducting a GPS campaign.
• Set up and operate electronic and other survey field equipment and safety equipment.
• Locate survey monuments, maintain survey, and other equipment.

Need To Have

• Ability to lift items weighing up to 60 pounds; climb up and down slopes; work outdoors, and around traffic in all weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodation.
• College or vocational/technical course work in Engineering or other related field.
• A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
• Equivalent technical experience.
• One of the following:

• Working with the Public Land Survey system.
• Using computer software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience:

• Ability to:
• Demonstrate the employee competencies.
• Work independently and in teams with minimal lead worker direction.
• Schedule, prioritize, and balance several tasks/projects.
• Knowledge of math functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; and the ability to apply math functions to survey and mapping solutions.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
