Performs routine patient care, support, and services in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Integrates education, technical competence, and patient interaction skills to gain confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers. Exercises sound judgment, and developed clinical skills to support the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety to help deliver optimal patient care. May also be responsible for performing specific tasks and/or orienting other staff to the department.:
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
EMERGENCY SERVICES
- Provides basic patient care relating to nutrition, elimination, hygiene and mobility.
- Performs selected procedures, including but limited to taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure), collecting and transporting specimens, patient transport, ambulation and physical activities, and after-death care.
- Provides appropriate, direct patient care to patients under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Perform selected duties to ensure the cleanliness of the environment and ready for patients.
- Mentors and fosters a constructive environment that helps students build confidence in their skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Maintains equipment and understands procedures and treatments performed by physicians.
- Explains and educates the patient on process of examinations, tests and medical procedures in a clear and professional manner to alleviate fear and anxiety.
- Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.
CLERICAL
- Performs general clerical tasks, such as answering phones; updating patient appointments; or retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records (EHR).
- Prepares and completes accurate documentation related to patient, including all treatment performed, in medical and departmental records as required.
SAFETY
- Inspects and calibrates equipment accordingly for proper operation and records the quality control (QC) results, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after each procedure.
COMPLIANCE
- Performs quality care in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient privacy and care.
- Retains certification and completes mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation and licensure requirements.
- Maintains strictest confidence of all patients protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure.
EDUCATION:
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
1 year recent relevant experience
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Demonstrated knowledge of basic patient care skills, various medical procedures, views, and equipment.
Ability to recognize an emergency situation and take appropriate action.
Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline.
General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
Build collaborate relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

Pay Range: 34.19-41.02
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
