Emergency Department Ward Clerk; 12 Hour Shifts 7Am -7Pm, 72-80 Hours

The Ward Clerk must have the skill and knowledge to provide population specific care. He/She must have the ability to assess and identify needs and requirements of the patient and report the findings appropriately to the charge nurse/team leader.

The Ward Clerk reports directly to charge nurse/team leader.

• Secretarial background with some medical terminology and usage preferred
• Make sure Emergency Department tracker is updated continuously to maintain accurate status of patients in the department.
• Help as time allows with answering the call lights and assisting CNA’s as needed (passing meal trays, walking patients, etc.)
• Provide protection of the medical record and maintain HIPPA compliance
• Licensure/Certification
• BLS certification required upon hire
• Education
• Helps the department run smoothly by answering the telephone, printing forms as needed, dispatching for ambulance transports, arranging transfers, phoning physicians, and ordering supplies
• Work Experience
• Successful completion of hospital orientation
• High School graduate or equivalent required
