Job Summary:
The Emergency Department (Floor Nurse) is responsible for providing exceptional patient care in a fast-paced and high-stress environment. The nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing care of patients in the emergency department. They will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Perform initial assessments of patients upon arrival to the emergency department.
2. Triaging patients based on acuity and urgency of medical needs.
3. Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by the physician.
4. Monitor and document patients' vital signs, symptoms, and responses to interventions.
5. Assist in diagnostic procedures such as blood draws, IV placement, and wound care.
6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
7. Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families.
8. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient assessments and care provided.
9. Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe patient environment.
10. Participate in continuous education and quality improvement initiatives.
11. Respond effectively to emergencies and provide life-saving measures.
12. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
13. Comply with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
14. Facilitate patient transfers to other departments or facilities as necessary.
15. Maintain confidentiality and patient privacy at all times.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
2. Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
3. BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications.
4. Minimum of 2 years of experience in an emergency department or similar acute care setting (preferred).
5. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
6. Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle emergencies efficiently.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing situations.
9. Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
10. Understanding of medical terminology, procedures, and medications.
11. Ability to maintain composure and provide compassionate care during high-stress situations.
12. Knowledge of infection control and safety protocols.
13. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
14. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
15. Dedication to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
