Overview
The Embedded Software Engineer role is critical for continued company growth at Skip-Line. This position provides innovative new ideas and adds productivity power to the Development department. Continued company growth relies heavily on competent software development.
This role directly affects the customer relationship with Skip-Line:
- When products are easily configured by Production Technicians.
- When software is reliable and performs as expected.
- When feature development can be predictably scheduled.
- When software is easy to use.
- When features are properly documented for customer perspective.
- When products can be modified quickly to meet customer needs.
The Sr. Manager of Embedded Software supervises this position.
Requirements:
Essential Functions
Required:
- Passionate in software development, takes ownership and pride in their work
- Strong understanding of C and C++
- Experience with version control systems (Git and SVN)
- Eye for design and attention to detail
- Experience with bare metal firmware development and embedded Linux
- Minimal of 3-5 years of experience of Embedded Engineering or similar role
- BS degree in Computer Science or Engineering
- Self-starter, highly motivated, and capable of working with little or no supervision
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum
- Experience with Qt
- Familiarity with CANbus
- Experience writing documentation.
- Experience with Python
Experience that will impress us:
- Familiarity with implementing field-updating of device firmware
- Linux kernel development experience
- Interpret electronic schematics
- Experience with Buildroot and Yocto
- Experience developing with FPGAs
- Can operate a multimeter and oscilloscope
Responsibilities
The principal responsibilities of the Software Engineer are:
- Write maintainable, extensible, portable code
- Work with the Senior Embedded Manager, Project Manager and Software Engineers to develop new features and internal software.
- Assist the support and production teams to troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems
Additional responsibilities include:
- Using version control and issue tracking software
- Following Skip-Line code style and commenting guidelines
- Protect Skip-Line intellectual property and proprietary information by keeping code and internal documentation/procedures confidential
- Assist with internal IT tasks
- Follow Skip-Line development guidelines and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Following Skip-Line code style and commenting guidelines
- Using version control and issue tracking software
- Participating in code review
- Writing product documentation for customers and/or internal use
- Participating in code review
- Writing product documentation for customers and/or internal use
