The EEG Tech I is responsible for the following:
- Takes appropriate actions during patient emergency situations and ensures patient safety, including electrical equipment safety in the Labs at all times.
- Attend technical staff meetings and morning huddles, providing professional input for the development of procedures and protocols.
- Implements alternative methods or adjusts recordings to obtain optimal recording of clinical EEG, AEEG data.
- Performs procedures according to Laboratory standards and protocols.
- Prepares and adjusts recording equipment as needed.
- Participates in conferences and technical meetings on a local, regional, and national basis.
- Accurately and thoroughly Completes documents, forms, and reports.
- Prepares patients and equipment for procedures.
- Obtains medical history from patient/families to identify and meet patient-specific needs. (e.g. physical/mental limitations, current physiological status regarding the testing procedure).
- Troubleshoots recording equipment and coordinates repairs as needed.
- Reviews procedure request provided by ordering physician, and complies with all standard lab protocols.
- Documents history in the technologist report.
The EEG Tech I must have the following:
- Basic knowledge of digital EEG equipment.
- Skilled at interpreting EEG normal and abnormal patterns, variants, wake and sleep and is able to adjust recording appropriately in response.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to quickly and accurately measure and apply EEG electrodes on routine patients (e.g. 30 minutes or less with accuracy to 0.5cm).
- High School/GED education
- Ability to apply electrodes effectively and accurately withing 30 minutes with paste, tape, and collodion, on all patient types including behavioral, adult, child, and neonate.
- Certification in CPR is required within 60 days of hire
- Ability to function in a fast-pace pediatric multi-disciplinary team environment.
- 1 year of EEG experience
- Basic knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and electrical safety, general knowledge of EEG instrumentation, pattern recognition, and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the EEG. 6. Basic knowledge of editing/ pruning patient data.
- Knowledge of the international 10/20 system of Electrode Measurement.
- Knowledge of infection control standards relating to patient and equipment.
