The Certified Electrocardiogram Technician (CET), under general supervision, will assists the non-invasive cardiac lab in its daily responsibilities and perform non-invasive cardiovascular tests and procedures such as EKG’s, cardiovascular stress tests, and application of Holters and extended heart monitors, all in accordance with established policies and procedures.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Processes final reports and interfaces dictated reports where indicated with delivery to referral physicians
  • Clinical duties per department within scope of practice of the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • Schedules appointments cardiology testing for the department and maintains adequate supplies for proper functioning of department
  • Assists physician in operating computerized stress testing system and monitor’s patient’s blood pressure/heart rate/O2 saturation response, changes on electrocardiogram or symptoms and reports to physician
  • Prepares and instructs patients for EKG, 24-hour Holter Monitor, 30-day event monitors, treadmill/pharmacologic stress tests; and processes Holter Monitor flash cards with the use of computerized Holter Monitor Analyzer


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Ability to successfully uphold the established customer service standards and Company Mission Statement
  • Work with spirit of enthusiasm, teamwork, cooperation and a sense of urgency, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality over all matters in the course of business operations including patient and employee information
  • Must possess a working knowledge of, and ability to identify, indications/contra-indications for stress testing and relative and absolute endpoints, and must have basic knowledge of cardiovascular medications and their effect on blood pressure, heart rate, and exercise tolerance
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Must be proficiently skilled in the application and use of Windows, Word Perfect, Excel, Outlook and the Internet
  • Ability to recognize simple and complex cardiac arrhythmias; to multi-task in an efficient, thorough, and prioritized manner; to work quickly, accurately and independently; and, to anticipate needs and solve problems

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and Medical Assistant certification from an accredited school
  • 1+ years performing EKG or cardiology department duties as described herein
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance. Candidates must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • BLS (American Heart Association) and remain a certified EKG Technician (CET) with active status by fulfilling renewal requirements as specified by certifying agency. Active status required within one year of employment if not registered


Preferred Qualification:

  • Completion of Cardiovascular Credentialing Program
