The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems at Consolidated Government water utility plants and facilities. Resolves technical problems; installs, repairs, programs, maintains electrical and process control instrumentation and automated devices for all water production facilities within the guidelines of department policies and regulations and supervisory instructions. Reports to Electrical/Instrumentation Supervisor and may supervise personnel as assigned. Trains water production employees concerning technical issues. Works with water production co-workers to provide support. THIS POSITION REQUIRES OCCASSIONAL HOLIDAY, NIGHTS AND WEEKEND WORK IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CONDITIONS!
- Receives and reviews a variety of documentation. Reviews shift data, flow recordings and other operational reports. Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, sketches and drawings of equipment and assemblies.
- Performs manual labor tasks associated with maintenance and repair activities. Installs equipment and components. Pulls wires, removes and replaces parts; gathers and transports tools and supplies. Prepares work site and cleans up after work is completed.
- Provides routine and complex maintenance. Repair services to electrical, electronic, and pneumatic equipment and systems at water utility treatment plants and operating facilities. Conducts inspections, tests, adjusts, calibrates, and services equipment and systems. Ensures proper operation of equipment and systems while identifying and correcting equipment and system errors and failures. Locates, repairs, or replaces defective circuits, modules, digital interfaces, and other electronic parts. Ensures equipment and systems conform with plans and specifications. Prepares new or modifies existing, operating and maintenance procedures as needed.
- Participates in operational integrity and safety tests, functional tests, acceptance tests, etc.: verifies proper operation of safety monitoring detection and alarm systems; identifies and corrects system failures; and maintains logs of test results.
- Assists in locating and coordinating materials and purchase requisitions for replacement equipment, materials and parts. Reviews equipment contracts for vendors, part number, warranty eligibility, prepares, and submits required documentation as needed.
- Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, which includes calibration test equipment, common hand tools, volt and amp meters.
Education: High School diploma or GED {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.}
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in maintaining and repairing process control instruments and automated systems.
Preferred (in addition to minimum qualifications): Two-year diploma or certificate in instrumentation, electrical, or electronics technology.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Established ability to perform under high stress and remain congenial.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Considerable knowledge of progressive management concepts, mastery of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation skills.
- Considerable knowledge of the water systems of Augusta and EPD rules and regulations.
- Must have ability to actively listen to others to understand their needs and work well with others.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or with a team.
- Considerable knowledge of BAT theories and devices.
Certification(s): Must possess the ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications: International Society of Automation (ISA) Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) Level I; Water Distribution Systems Operator or Water Collections Systems Operator; and Fiber Optic Installer. Must obtain HAZMAT certification within 12 months of employment or promotion.
License: Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If state license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.***This position requires driving a county vehicle.***
