Job Description

RENK America is currently seeking an experienced Wire Harness Design Engineer with PCB Design skillsets who will develop the electrical system / schematic, ensure the harness designs comply to applicable standards and meet durability, manufacturing and performance requirements. The position will own the electrical harness design, prepare wiring harness schematics and layouts, electrical systems, bills of material, components schematics and layouts with supporting calculations in support of the overall system design. The engineer will work cross-functionally to produce schematics for new designs, updates to existing designs, design validation and verification as well as support dynamometer testing and vehicle integration.



Essential Functions:


  • Experience with critical grounding design, low noise design and EMI/EMC and ESD compliance.
  • Design complete cable and test configurations, including bulkhead design, for all Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing to MIL-STD-461, ensuring proper shielding, lengths and maintain signal integrity when required.
  • Create PCB footprints for the component library by interpreting manufacturer's data sheets.
  • Work with outside vendors and design engineers to address questions and/or requests that arise during circuit card fabrication.
  • Analyze and resolve design related issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform component placement and maintain integrity between components and circuit functions.
  • Generate design documentation in Altium such as schematic, layouts for multi-layer boards and fabrication drawings, Bill of Materials, Prototyping and Testing.
  • Work with test engineers, transmission and engine engineers and technicians to determine optimal solutions to meet customer requirements, solve harness routing and electrical design challenges. Support functional evaluation of harness prototypes. Evaluate field failures to determine root cause.
  • Evaluate electronic components to ensure availability and suitability for designs.
  • Design and develop wiring harnesses.
  • Responsible for basic design calculations relating to current, voltage, power, temperature, heat buildup, bend radius and mounting locations.
  • Prepare test procedures and develop test fixtures to verify circuit card functions.




Requirements


  • Must be available for domestic and foreign travel (less than 10%).
  • Must be able to move freely within the manufacturing and lab environment with reasonable accommodation.
  • Good written and verbal communications.
  • Familiar with requirements and quality standards of IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class I, II and III.
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university and a minimum 4 years prior related experience.
  • Must be capable of obtaining a DOD security clearance.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple project tasks to meet established deadlines.
  • Harness design software experience preferably Capital Harness XC / Capital Logic.
  • Able to select components and wire gauge after reviewing the system.



Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Design PCB’s to replace obsolete or unsupported designs in military equipment.
  • Knowledge of various signal and communication standards, such as RS-232, RS-422, Serial Rapid I/O (SRIO), Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553 and Low Voltage Digital Signaling (LVDS).
  • Minimum five (5) years hands on experience in design of rigid, rigid/flex, and flex PCBs.
  • Reverse-engineer existing designs to produce schematics, layouts, BOMs, and other documentation for manufacturing, testing, repairing, etc.
  • BS or MS Degree majoring in circuit design and power electronics from an accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with PCBA design standards e.g. IPC Certified Interconnect Designer.
