Electric Vehicle Engineer Jobs

U-Haul’s Technical Center is seeking to fill a full time Electric Vehicle Engineer. The Electric Vehicle Engineer will work on a team to engineer and design systems including modules, electrical control devices, electric motors and sensors to provide U-Haul customers with HEV, PHEV and BEV alternatives to trucks with internal combustion engines.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Working knowledge of EV battery technology, different types of battery, battery construction, and internal battery materials/construction
• Working with electric vehicles
• Understanding of automotive electrical systems such as, Controller area network, module configuration, and software development
• Knowing the fundamentals of different types of EV such as, HEV (hybrid electric vehicle), PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle), EREV (extended range electric vehicle), and BEV (battery electric vehicle)
• Travel as required
• Knowledge of vehicle analytics such as data gathered of vehicle safety and performance systems. Also known as Telematics system.
• Understanding automotive technology that manufactures use today in production
• Electric vehicle charging, types of charging, and levels of charging output
• Understanding of electric infrastructure and how the system works today and how it needs to adapt for the future
• Continuing education on new automotive technology to stay abreast of product trends.
• Designing and test electrical circuits and circuit boards
• Working with Engineering, Research and Development and Truck Product to build working electric vehicles
• Electric motor technology, types of electric motors, designs of electric motors, power output and inputs motors can create
• Current safety and testing regulations for EV vehicles
• Modifying CAD files with module and wiring placements

Qualified candidates will possess:

• 2-5 years of experience
• Broad knowledge of a general technical field
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
