This is a leadership position that requires the incumbent to have a high degree of comfort engaging directly and often with individuals at all levels within the plant and with individuals inside and outside of company, including regulatory agencies. It also requires effective sourcing and utilization of resources (employees and external experts, equipment, materials) to achieve environmental compliance. Development and improvement of the environmental management system to meet ISO14001 standards. Continue educational self-development through leadership, technical and Six Sigma training.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Responsible for managing environmental demands with manufacturing demands (costs, productivity, environmental compliance, quality requirements; safety and sense of urgency)
  • Manage Waste streams & Wastewater Treatment
  • Ensures consistency in tone and focus in safety & environmental systems in alignment with other plants.
  • 0-5 Direct Reports
  • 150-400 hourly employees
  • Develops/Communicates the environmental policies and procedures for the Clearfield plant.
  • Assists Division EHS Director in establishing strategic safety and environmental direction; and crafting and implementing safety and environmental policies and procedures that support company short- and long-term objectives.
  • Provides Environmental Compliance Direction to
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving an environmental management system (ISO14001) at the plant level which ensures compliance with or exceeds the requirements of environmental laws, regulations, policies, and guidance documents.
  • Responsible for achieving goodwill with employees, community, and regulatory environmental groups.
  • Responsible for conservation of resources and reuse/recycling of waste to control costs and minimizing and eliminating waste streams and emissions.
  • 10-25 salaried employees
  • Responsible for all Clearfield plant safety & environmental operations and compliance on a 24/7 basis.
What You’ll Need to Have:
  • Communicate the need for environmental awareness to management and the workforce to keep them abreast of current and changing conditions.
  • Determine how environmental regulations can impact new or proposed processes.
  • Acquire, manage, and maintain all environmental permits associated with the Plant.
  • Develop strategic relationships with regulatory agencies, attorneys, and consultants.
  • Provide employee training to meet compliance and best management practices for safety and environmental requirements.
  • Continue to develop their own knowledge, skills, and capabilities.
  • Ensure implementation of and compliance with all company environmental regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Federal environmental regulations and at least one state’s environmental regulations (preferably Utah).
  • Track and plan for new environmental regulations.
  • Understanding of environmental compliance issues.
  • Manage recordkeeping and reporting associated with all environmental permits and Federal requirements.
  • In communicating to the management and employees, provide information and requirements that are clear, concise, and accurate so that people can concentrate on doing their job.
  • Report on key metrics, challenges, and opportunities to Plant Manager and Division EHS Director.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other necessary computer programs.
  • Manage recycling and reuse systems necessary for plant compliance or operations.
  • Communicate with management, department heads, and other employees concerning environmental and safety issues.
  • Understanding of the engineering of wastewater systems.
  • Manage universal, special, and solid wastes to dispose and recycle in accordance with State and Federal standards.
  • Basic knowledge of financial concepts.
  • Implement his/her skills to ensure that Direct Reports are a team with the right distribution of skills and have the leadership qualities to engage the workforce in achieving plant goals.
  • Represent the plant as a valuable member of the environmental community in which the plant is located.
  • Manage hazardous waste generation and disposal to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Management of the Risk Elimination System and Safety Reporting System.
  • Management of the Safety Data Sheet database for the Clearfield plant and provide review of proposed new materials for safety and environmental concerns.
  • Identify learning opportunities and development experiences for utilizing and developing direct reports strengths.
It Would Be Great if You Had:
  • 3+ years in an environmental-related field
  • Environmental regulatory experience
  • Operation or management of wastewater treatment or remediation systems
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering or environmental-related field.
