Job Description
Job Overview: Wonders of Wildlife in Springfield, MO is seeking a dynamic and energetic EDUCATOR to join our team! The Educator is responsible for the development, implementation, and facilitation of learning experience for the Johnny Morris Foundation, which includes Wonders of Wildlife and other conservation attraction properties. Wonders of Wildlife and Dogwood Canyon are committed to developing our team by offering career ladders so that employees can gain knowledge, skills and abilities based on achieving and maintaining the job criteria to advance their careers.


Essential Functions For Educator I


  • Assist with WOW school and other outdoor skill and conservation-focused programming
  • Must adhere to all company/department safety standards and policies.
  • Ensure all safety procedures within the department are maintained and followed throughout the facility.
  • Handle and present a variety of small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects for educational programs and follow proper handling procedures.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to be used in working across programmatic suites, including team projects, facilitation of educational programs, teaching, etc.
  • Present a variety of educational programs and workshops for school groups, WOLF School, home school, scout groups, and other civic and community groups.
  • Provide a safe, orderly environment in which children's needs (physical, emotional, social, etc.) are met effectively.
  • Facilitate immersive educational programs and experiences for the Johnny Morris Foundation Conservation Attraction Properties.
  • Must be open to working mandatory/approved overtime.
  • Facilitate and assist with educational activities and presentations for overnights, birthday parties, camps, and more.
  • Must be able to cover shifts at affiliate Conservation Attraction properties.
  • Coordinate, implement, and present a variety of shows, presentations, and encounters for guests to experience while they are touring the facility.
  • Provide input for interpretive exhibits and experiences within Wonders of Wildlife.
  • Oversee children of all ages in large and small groups.
  • Must have an approved driving record and operate a company vehicle if required/applicable.
  • Facilitate and implement activities for special events such as banquets and events.
  • Must be open to working weekends/weekdays/nights when necessary/critical to support the business.
  • Ability to physically handle a variety of animals after completing appropriate training.
  • Coordinate and conduct age-appropriate education and interpretive presentations, both on-site and off-site.
  • Perform daily procedures necessary to collect and account adequately for all revenues received at the stingray feeding kiosk.
  • Ensure children's safety at all times during any program offered within the conservation attraction properties.


Essential Functions for Educator II: In Addition to Education I Essential Functions


  • Develop programming and assist in WOW school and other outdoor skill and conservation-focused programming

  • Implement and present a variety of educational programs and workshops for school groups, WOLF School, home school, scout groups and other civic and community groups.
  • Provide training and guidance to WOW volunteers and staff in education-related activities.
  • Implement, develop, facilitate, and assist with educational activities and presentations for overnights, birthday parties, camps and more.
  • Develop education materials and activities for special events such as banquets and events.
  • Provide input for interpretive exhibits and experiences within Wonders of Wildlife.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to be used in working across programmatic suites, including team projects, program development, teaching, etc.


MINIMUM Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education For Educator I


  • The above description is intended to describe the general content, identify the essential job functions, and set forth the requirements for the performance of this job. It is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of job functions or requirements.
  • Experience - At least 1-year experience working in guest services engaging and serving guests; strong teaching, interpretation, and presentation skills. Strong communication and hospitality skills, with the ability to interact with a variety of audiences, ages, and abilities professionally and productively. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and other office equipment.
  • Manual Dexterity - Requires the ability to operate telephones, facsimile machines, computers, and other general office equipment to record written information and maintain files. Must also be able to handle live animals.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to sunlight, various animals, weather, loud sounds, low lighting, close quarters, high/low temperatures, etc.
  • Visual - Requires the ability to operate office equipment, including computers, and read written instructions and other documentation. Must be able to lead classroom programs, including crafts, transport, and display live species.
  • Environmental - Requires capability of performing essential job functions in an aquarium museum environment with climate control and good lighting. It also requires some work outside in various environmental conditions.
  • Audible - Requires the ability to communicate verbally with employees, volunteers, guests, and technical professionals in person and via telephone.
  • Education level - High school diploma required; college work preferred
  • Any combination of experience, education, skills, certification(s), etc. will be taken into consideration
  • Mental - Requires a high degree of concentration and attention to detail - the ability to focus on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Physical - Requires walking/standing approximately 60% of the time; sitting approximately 20% of the time; lifting to 50 lbs. - approximately 10% of the time; stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 10% of the time.
