Position Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Educational Video Editor for the Office for External Education’s (OEE) Product Development Team contributes to a growing portfolio of educational products and programs designed for OEE's target markets of corporate learners, healthcare professionals, and general audiences. The Educational Video Editor will leverage expertise in visual communication, information organization, and storytelling in addition to video post-production skills to produce a broad range of video assets that bring healthcare education to learners in meaningful and memorable ways. They should feel comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and be comfortable working closely with world-class faculty, subject matter experts, instructional designers, illustrators, animators, and video producers, to edit video material in compliance with strategically set deadlines and guidelines for optimal media delivery. This position reports to the Post Producer within the highly collaborative and cross-disciplinary Product Development group.

Strong skillsets in video editing workflows, media management, team communication, and task management are essential. Curiosity, creativity, initiative, and exceptional attention to detail are a must, along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to give and receive feedback graciously.

A successful candidate will be interested in what makes educational media effective and will possess a drive to support learning objectives and to solve visual communication challenges. A background in science or education is desired, and a commitment to excellence in educational media is expected.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:
  • Create or adapt motion graphics as necessary
  • Organize, ingest, and sync multi-cam footage
  • Prepare and send files for transcription, along with additional file preparation work
  • Review videos for quality assurance
  • Interface with online video hosting platforms to deliver media and associated assets
  • Leverage the use of project templates and conform to project style guides to ensure consistency across products and deliverables
  • Join team- and project-based meetings, contributing to discussions of video assets and processes
  • Process recordings from screencast, voiceover, live-action, and animation assets
  • Manage digital assets from capture to archive, including consistent file-naming
  • Execute post-production of video projects, including editing, audio mixing, motion graphics, and color correcting video assets
  • Coordinate reviews with project stakeholders, assign tasks using project management software, and synthesize and address feedback received
  • Flexible hours may be required periodically to accommodate video productions and product launch schedules
  • Create assembly edits, including take selection
  • Compress and upload final videos for publication
  • Assist with production for the in-house video production team, as needed and on a limited basis

Basic Qualifications

College background and 3 or more years of experience in video production environments required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2D motion graphics experience and a strong grasp of graphic design principles including hierarchy, typography, and composition
  • Background or strong interest in medicine, science, and/or education strongly preferred
  • Capability to interface effectively with instructional design, biomedical visualization, and technology teams, as well as faculty members and subject matter experts
  • Ability to independently identify post-production process issues and help to correct those issues with suggestions for new workflows and technologies
  • Exceptional judgment, keen eye for video, and strong creative skills with a focus on creating engaging and pedagogically sound videos for specific target audiences
  • Familiarity and comfort with remote post-production workflows is a plus
  • Organized and proactive nature with exceptional attention to detail, familiar with task management software
  • Outstanding professionalism and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to make both aesthetic and content judgments about video, to create engaging videos with effective educational value
  • Links to examples of your post-production work, including examples of didactic content, are expected with your application.
  • Experience with Photoshop is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects with varying timelines, and to consistently deliver high-quality media within deadlines
  • Strong post-production experience including audio editing, audio mixing, and color correction with current post-production tools including Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Audition, and iZotope RX
  • Comfort assisting with production in a medical setting with doctors and patients, as needed; or in studio settings with faculty and subject matter experts, as needed

This is a three-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
