DESCRIPTION

For the purposes of this position, the working title will be Assistant Director.


The Assistant Director is assigned to the Division of Career and Adult Education (DCAE), Florida Department of Education (FDOE) and reports to the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE).


  • The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions.

  • The employee must interact courteously with others.

  • The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit.

  • Provides Technical Assistance to locale recipients to implement and carry out programs, services and activities related to Career and Technical Education.

  • The Assistant Director performs technical and management level tasks, implements, directs and/or assists with activities within CTE’s industry sectors.

  • Supports the unit in their successful maintenance of Industry Sectors clusters, including, but not limited to Additional CTE Programs/Courses and Agriculture and Food & Natural Resources.

  • Facilitates partnerships and agreements across educational institutions, workforce development boards, industry partners, government, and non-profit organizations to develop and strengthen the education workforce to meet the changing demands of the 21st century and to enable quality education.

  • Responsible for industry sector initiatives, direct employer engagement, and drives stakeholder satisfaction. The Assistant Director will provide technical assistance to DCAE and external stakeholders to develop effective linkages (including the use of intermediaries) with critical industries in the region to support education workforce use of local workforce development initiatives.

  • Ensure initiatives meet the needs and support economic growth within a specific geographical region or the state through superlative communication, coordination, and collaboration among secondary and post-secondary institutions, employers, economic development entities, and service providers.

  • Develop and implement proven strategies to address the skills gap in workforce development (such as the establishment of industry and sector partnerships) that provide skilled workforce needed for CTE’s critical industry sectors, and that expands opportunities for career advancement (employment, internships, externships, and apprenticeship) for students in high demand, high-wage occupations.

  • Work in partnership with relevant stakeholders to update existing frameworks and facilitate the development of new statewide programs.

  • Provides support and guidance with implementing and refining CTE programs. Deliver research-based professional development training for CTE teachers and school personnel in partnership with (to include but not limited to) educational and industry partners, select FCS institutions and other cluster-specific organizations.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of grants specific to DCAE initiatives and develop instructional/educational resources for the regular maintenance of CPALMS.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Years of experience:

Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of related experience; or master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience.
