Education and Data Coordinator

Organization Overview

Literacy Services of Indian River County is a nonprofit organization that has been helping adult literacy students improve their quality of life for over 50 years. We provide free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction to nearly 300 literacy students and English Language Learners every year.

Our work transforms lives, strengthens families, and improves the community. Adult literacy students seek our services to improve their employability, study for job certification exams, enhance their communication skills, prepare for the U.S. Citizenship and GED exams, and engage in their children's education. Volunteer tutors meet with students weekly to help students achieve their personal literacy goals.

Position Overview

The Education & Data Coordinator is an essential role that supports the organization’s mission-based, life-changing programs. This position is responsible for being the primary point of contact and Master Coach for over 100 volunteer tutors.


The Education & Data Coordinator designs and delivers high-quality, engaging, educational content for our tutors to help our adult literacy students achieve their goals. Using best practices, program evaluation, organizational data, and student needs as guiding principles, the Education & Data Coordinator leads the Professional Development of tutors through group training sessions and one-on-one individual sessions.

Additionally, this position is responsible for overseeing the organization’s data collection systems, processes, and platforms. The Education & Data Coordinator inputs data, runs reports, explains outcomes, and identifies needs based on agency data.


This position reports to the Executive Director.

Compensation & Scheduling

  • Hourly rate $20-25
  • 32 hours per week, primarily in-person

Education & Data Coordinator Responsibilities

Tutors

  • Assists with workplace groups by conducting student assessments and assigning appropriate curriculum
  • Oversees and coordinates with Tutor Mentor Team to support all volunteer tutors, expand program capacity, and identify areas for improvement
  • Develops and conducts innovative, inspiring volunteer tutor training workshops (virtually and in-person) for new and active tutors
  • Provides excellent customer service, while serving as the primary point of contact for volunteer tutors via phone, email, and in-person
  • Builds positive, encouraging, and vibrant tutor-student relationships that will foster strong commitment, participation, and retention
  • Provides ongoing support and individualized tutor training, as needed
  • Provides adult education content expertise for program growth; keeps current on best practices, analyzes program data, and suggests curriculum modifications accordingly
  • Creates and disseminates a comprehensive, weekly newsletter (Tuesday’s Tips) to streamline communication, provides professional development tips, and keeps all volunteers, staff, and community stakeholders aware of important information

Data & Communications

  • Manages the program database (LACES) and organization Social Media platforms
  • Produces monthly, quarterly, and annual data reports for Board of Directors, funders, and community stakeholders
  • Responsible for monthly tutor reports - collecting, inputting data, calling tutors to clarify information, and analyzing data
  • Assists with the preparation of grant applications, grant management, reporting requirements, and demonstrating measurable program outcomes of student performance
  • Inputs donation information into donor database (Network for Good), assists with donor acknowledgement letters, and pulls donor reports
  • Manages online inventory (Libib) and online forum (EdNet), ensuring resources are effective and used often
  • Assists with the preparation of quarterly newsletters to donors and stakeholders

Team Support

  • Supports program outreach, community engagement, collaborations, organization events, and volunteer/student recruitment efforts, particularly in Vero Beach
  • Answers phones, emails, and Social Media messages, responding within 48 hours
  • Assists students, tutors, donors, and community partners at the Main Office
  • Other duties, as assigned

Position Requirements

  • Available to work evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Works smoothly with agency staff, students, and volunteers in a fast-paced office environment
  • Experience using online platforms, databases, and shared drives (Zoom, MS Office, Facebook, Network for Good, LACES, Google Drive, etc.)
  • Passion for adult literacy and compassion for students
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, as needed
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures and populations
  • Ability to speak and conduct presentations in front of small and large groups
  • Superb written, verbal and computer skills
  • Bilingual conversation and written abilities (English/Spanish), strongly preferred
  • Must possess a college degree (preferably, Bachelor’s in Education, teaching background, or related experience)
  • Self-directed and motivated to successfully manage multiple priorities and work well without supervision
