Class Concept


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, special education, or a behavioral science; supplemented by two years of experience as a social worker and/or providing early childhood developmental assessments or behavioral health services to children; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License. According to position assignment may be required to possess state of Georgia certification as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, or in Special Education.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.


Example of Duties

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to coordinate service delivery between multidisciplinary medical and professional teams and families of children with developmental delays from birth to five years of age. Responsibilities include serving as
resource for helping families navigate through the healthcare system to obtain timely and appropriate services for their children; conducting home assessments; and performing case management duties.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Works with peers, multidisciplinary medical and professional teams, providers, and the community to identify eligible clients for intervention/social program services: attends health fairs and other events to promote assigned program and educate the public about available services; and provides informational literature and educational presentations.
Conducts intake interviews: conducts developmental screenings and assessments; collaborates with families to identify concerns, answer questions, determine priorities, and provide resources; explains program eligibility requirements, cost of participation, rights, and responsibilities; requests medical records; and prepares/completes intake file.
Schedules meetings with multidisciplinary teams to develop patient care plan.
Coordinates referrals for service: meets with PSP team to locate appropriate resources for individual child; shares pertinent information from chart to assigned provider and service coordinator; communicates special concerns; and provides ongoing management/monitoring of cases to answer questions, resolve complaints and concerns, provide feedback and assistance to parents, therapists, unit staff, and service providers.
Develops Program-to-School Transition plan by meeting with school officials and parents to ensure that the child is placed in the appropriate class level as defined by federal guidelines.
Provides training for special education teachers and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance Officers to ensure that federal, state, and local standards are met.
Assists with the development of assigned program budgets.
Works with multidisciplinary teams to develop strategies to address community health needs.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
