Description

DSHS SCC Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 2

Join our team at the Special Commitment Center (SCC), situated within the Total Confinement Facility (TCF) on McNeil Island in the picturesque Puget Sound. We are a highly structured and secure treatment facility dedicated to assisting individuals who are detained and/or civilly committed in addressing their sexual offending histories. We currently have multiple permanent and on-call positions available for Residential Rehabilitation Counselors, where you will play a crucial role in transforming lives through counseling and safety expertise.

As a Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 2, your primary responsibility will be overseeing the daily operations of the residential unit. Working collaboratively with a team, you will implement effective residential treatment strategies that contribute to the rehabilitation of individuals at SCC. Your knowledge and safety experience will be instrumental in making a positive impact on the lives of our residents.

At SCC, we value our employees and offer additional benefits. In addition to the advertised salary, our employees receive a $10 per day premium pay and a free Orca card for transportation use. Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate. Furthermore, ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees from the Steilacoom dock.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

We understand that you may have questions about SCC and the position. To provide more information and address your queries, we will be holding an optional Q&A Session for interested applicants. This session will give you an opportunity to learn more about SCC and ask any questions you may have. Upon applying, you will receive a Teams link for the session. If you would like to request a link for the Q&A Session, please email Mentoria Thomas or Angella Tate.
As a Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 2, your duties will include:

  • Monitoring resident use of prescription medications.
  • Instructing and encouraging residents while maintaining regular interaction and redirecting them when necessary.
  • Providing direct day-to-day monitoring and care for the resident population.
  • Assisting and coaching residents in acquiring life skills necessary for a successful transition back into the community.
  • Escorting residents to and from different areas/locations within TCF
  • Providing accurate and detailed written documentation and reports on residents' progress toward treatment goals.
  • Ensuring safety and security within the living environment through routine inspections.
  • Staying informed about changes to residents' treatment goals and offering support and motivation.
  • Engaging with residents, assisting them in developing skills, and helping them become positive members of society.

We encourage professionals who meet one of the following criteria to apply:

High school graduation or GED, along with 2 years of experience in providing direct care for individuals with behavioral health issues.

College-level coursework can substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Equivalent education/experience will also be considered.

We value individuals who:
  • Demonstrate effective collaboration skills with staff and residents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Exhibit effective and flexible communication skills, including the ability to write comprehensive and concise documentation with attention to detail.
  • Display acute awareness of safety protocols and utilize strong judgment skills to assess environments and situations, making sound decisions within the scope of the job.
  • Possess knowledge of CPR and first responder level first aid.
  • Lead by example.

Join our dedicated team at SCC and contribute to the rehabilitation and transformation of individuals in a secure and supportive treatment environment. Apply now to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
