Children’s Home Society, Black Hills, is currently seeking a Residential Youth Counselor to work as part of a team providing supervision and care of children. Want to hear firsthand what it's like to be a Residential Youth Counselor? Watch here!

What You'll Do:

Your responsibilities as a Full Time Residential Youth Counselor would include:

  • Facilitate structured programs such as games and outdoor/indoor recreation.
  • Discipline as needed, respond to aggressive behavior, and maintain group order.
  • Screen, assess, and manage children’s pain. Contact RN or emergency 911 when necessary.
  • Assist in keeping unit clean and orderly. Bag and launder when necessary.
  • Maintain vigilant supervision and nurture children through one-on-one communication and care.
  • Document required messages and complete daily reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist children with hygiene and diet.
  • Ensure safety standards and infection control policies are followed.

Schedule: Set schedule that includes weekdays and one weekend shift. Hours are Wed., an alternating shift of either 7:00am-4:00pm or 12:30pm-10:00pm, Thurs., 1:45pm-10:00pm, Fri., 1:45pm-9:30pm and Sat., 7:00am-9:30pm.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Compensation: $20.00/hr + applicable education and work experience

Requirements:

Experience/Education/Skills: Bachelor’s degree, or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. High School Diploma or GED required.
