Description

Are you a leader with a passion for assisting people with disabilities by providing vocational rehabilitation services to assist them in obtaining and maintaining employment? Join the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and our hard-working team of professionals in SeaTac.
In this role, you will independently provide vocational rehabilitation counseling and case management to a caseload of individuals with varying types of disabilities to assist them in achieving a competitive employment outcome.
King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
Some of what you'll do

  • Manage and spend an allotment of case service funds to authorize and pay for vocational rehabilitation services required by customers
  • Arrange and interpret results of diagnostic testing and other vocational rehabilitation assessment tools
  • Develop and implement customers' individualized plans for employment
  • Determine customer eligibility for DVR services by obtaining and analyzing relevant medical information, and identifying the disability-related barriers to employment that require VR services
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of each customer's need for vocational rehabilitation services
  • Provide vocational rehabilitation counseling and devise work methods to deliver vocational rehabilitation services to a caseload of 90-110 customers with varying types of disabilities that are a substantial barrier to employment
  • Develop an effective VR counseling relationship that is responsive to the unique needs of each customer and necessary to achieve their employment goal
  • Assess and support client progress throughout the rehabilitation process and address any newly identified disabilities or barriers to employment
  • Provide vocational rehabilitation counseling to support, guide, and foster customers' insight and understanding of their strengths, capabilities, and disability-related barriers to employment

Who should apply?
  • Those with current certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC)
OR
  • A master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, counseling, or *a field related to vocational rehabilitation (such as one that promotes the physical, psychosocial, or vocational well-being of individuals with disabilities)
OR
  • A master's degree *with at least 18 quarter or 12 semester credit hours of rehabilitation counseling courses
OR
  • Bachelor's degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling or *reasonably related field
AND
  • Accepted or enrolled in a rehabilitation counseling or related master's program
AND
  • One year of paid/unpaid experience consisting of:
  • Direct work with individuals with disabilities in a setting such as an independent living center; or
  • Direct experience as an employer, as a small business owner or operator, or in self-employment, or other experience in human resources, recruitment, or experience in supervising employees, training, or other activities that provide experience in competitive integrated employment environments.
  • Direct service or advocacy activities that provide individuals with experience and skills in working with people with disabilities; or

  • Professionals with knowledge of disabilities and the models of vocational rehabilitation service delivery that lead to successful employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities, including supported employment models
  • Desire to develop exceptional vocational rehabilitation counseling skills
  • Experience working with people who have disabilities
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge of medical and psychological aspects of disabling conditions, labor market information, transferable skills analysis, assistive technology, and job modifications
  • Emotional intelligence to assist in redirecting anger or frustration into positive communication and behavior
  • Ability to work effectively with all types of people, especially those who are frustrated by their life circumstances
