Role Summary

The Drafting Technician will be responsible for designing components and assemblies to be fabricated off site and installed on construction sites. This position will also be responsible for interacting with the fabrication team in a shop environment to produce products made predominantly of wood and steel. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

DRAFTING TECHNICIAN FAMILY - CORE

• Communicate and coordinate with internal and external partners to incorporate design decisions into software platforms.
• Creates and/or review design documents with 2D and 3D modeling software as required to support project needs and fulfill full scope per specifications and contract documents.
• Analyzes existing design documents for errors and omissions; identifies and communicates to projects team.
• Utilizes 2D and 3D software to calculate, compile, and sort data to inform various business needs including but no limited to dimensions quantities, logistics requirements and material specifications.

Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core

ESTIMATING TECHNICIAN

• Learns, understands, and masters Estimating BIM processes, including but not limited to: model-based quantity takeoff, landing and mapping of model quantities to estimating platform, publishing of data to collaborative team dashboards
• Maintain audit trail of model and quantification iterations for future reference and exhibit

Other Role Responsiblities

• Participates in and complies with all company safety and quality programs and procedures.
• Complies with all company and site policies and best practice standards.
• Utilizes relevant JE Dunn technology to support all assigned responsibilities.
• Demonstrates willingness and ability to work collaboratively and cross0functionally to obtain information or solve problems in support of the team's goals.

• Maintains a professional appearance and workspace.
• Inspires a sense of team in the work environment. Utilizes communication and conflict resolution skills to help foster teamwork and collaboration.
• Continuously develops proficiency and understanding in the role.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally
• Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
• Knowledge of layout skills
• Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources
• Ability to assess and optimize project productivity
• Knowledge of parametric modeling software (fusion 360, autodesk inventor, solidworks)
• Proficiency in math-based skills and ability to convert between units
• Proficiency with AutoCAD software
• Ability to identify common construction materials and shop equipment
• Communication skills, verbal and written
• Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and specifications

Education

• Associate’s degree in design, drafting, architecture or related field (Preferred)
• In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
• Vocational or Technical training (Preferred)
• High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Experience

• 2+ years design or related experience (Preferred)
• American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) Certification (Preferred)

Working Environment

• Maintenance facility environment, may be exposed to varying temperatures, moving equipment, noise and exhaust fumes
• Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds
• Occasional activity: Standing, Walking, Bending, Climbing, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling
• Frequent activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen
• Must have reliable transportation
• May require working overtime as needed
