Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is seeking a Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (ODEIB) to join a dynamic Office of Equity. YSN, located on the beautiful and sprawling grounds of Yale West Campus, is conveniently located near major highways. The Director of ODEIB would be an integral part of the team, leading the development and implementation of an effective strategy to build a vibrant culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) for all members of the YSN community and to advance DEI priorities in all facets of YSN’s strategic plan, including the anti-racism plan. The director will collaborate with the Associate Dean of Equity (ADE) to determine the office’s strategic direction and will lead the day-to-day operations of the ODEIB to guide and lead YSN in efforts to create an environment that values and demonstrates its commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and belonging. The director will be responsible for developing, aligning, and/or integrating a range of new and existing initiatives, policies, and procedures into a cohesive platform that will foster a higher education community that exudes inclusive excellence within the school and with its partners and affiliates.

Understanding that this critical work is the responsibility of everyone at YSN, this position will guide the YSN community in expanding and extending the values of DEIB and anti-racism frameworks through teaching, scholarship, and broad engagement of students, faculty, staff and alumni. The successful candidate will establish and nurture collaborative partnerships with all stakeholders: leadership, faculty, students, staff and external stakeholders such as alumni, preceptors, and clinical and community agencies. The Director will partner with the ADE to lead YSN, in collaboration with staff, faculty, leaders and departments, in examination of current practices, policies, procedures, programs, structures, and campus climate, in order to implement the comprehensive, school-wide DEIB plan process now required of all units at Yale. The Director will engage in ongoing assessment to create and sustain an effective anti- racist, anti-oppressive learning and working environment that is welcoming and supportive of all. This may include working with colleagues such as the Office of Student Life and of Enrollment Management that strives to eradicate equity gaps in student participation and achievement. The Director will serve as a resource for individuals and groups through consultation and advisement regarding DEIB matters. The Director of ODEIB will serve as the School’s primary Title IX Coordinator and as a Discrimination and Harassment Resource Coordinator (DHRC) and will play a role in the School’s compliance efforts and commitment to providing a learning and working environment free from any form of discrimination and - harassment. Additionally, they will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to senior leaders, faculty, staff, students, alumni, preceptors and others as a whole on matters related to equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism work and its impact on the YSN community.

Essential Duties

1. Provide leadership, coordination, consultation, assistance, strategic oversight, and direction regarding all DEIB matters, through ODEIB. 2. In collaboration with YSN community members, provide co-leadership with the ADE in the creation, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the school’s DEI plans and updates consistent with the Belonging at Yale goals and objectives, as well as those set by Inclusion, Diversity Equity & Action Solutions (IDEAS) @ YSN—which is the school’s diversity, equity and inclusion council.3. Supporting the ADE, provide operational management for IDEAS @ YSN. 4. Assist the ADE in leading YSN-level implementation for Yale University-wide DEIB goals. 5. Recommend policy, procedure, and structural improvements that remove barriers to student, faculty, and employee success. 6. Cultivate and promote inclusive learning and work environments that encourage and support DEIB initiatives such as organizational wide DEIB workshops, multicultural and appreciation events, and advocacy for faculty, staff, and student and/or alumni affinity groups that support initiatives promoting learning that is reflective of inclusive excellence. 7. In partnership with the ADE, Executive Deputy Dean, Program Chairs, and faculty, support the development and implementation of inclusive curricula and pedagogical practices.8. Work with the YSN leadership team to develop strategies and opportunities to recruit and retain diverse faculty, staff, and students. 9. Develop and manage compliance using metrics and dashboards to compile reports to ensure accountability, tracking, and monitoring of DEIB efforts. Work closely with relevant YSN offices in use of data tools (e.g., YSN climate analyses, campus climate surveys, demographic data, student completion and employment data etc.) to compile reports that create benchmarks and assess institutional progress regarding DEIB efforts. 10. Develop dynamic and intentional equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging programs and initiatives for faculty, preceptors, staff, and students that adequately address the educational and social needs of the YSN community. 11. Develop and implement professional development to support equity and multi-identity competencies, and an ability to work and thrive in an increasingly diverse academic community. 12. Serve as an ad-hoc member of the Leadership Team in responding to emerging issues, ideas, and challenges impacting YSN’s ability to effectively move forward with DEIB efforts.13. Work internally and externally to establish networks of experts and organizations involved in the national discussion of DEIB to consistently advise YSN constituents on innovative ideas and program concepts for consideration, selection, and implementation. 14. Collaborate with the ADE, YSN Office of Communications, and Alumni Affairs to develop materials to promote DEIB goals and successes. 15. Utilize knowledge of federal, state, and local, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to facilitate appropriate resolution or referral and to manage reports of all bias-related incidents within the YSN community., 16. Identify and coordinate appropriate actions in collaboration with the ADE (referral, trainings, and counsel) for any identified trends or patterns. 17. Incumbent must be effective at accomplishing goals through the work of others and coordinating efforts performed by multiple individuals and groups.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in a related field minimum and three or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

High emotional and collaborative intelligence and ability to handle stressful, challenging and emotional situations, and create thoughtful, fair, and institutionally aligned responses.

Ability with community organizing, including coalition-building to achieve goals within a multi-stakeholder organization. Expertise, knowledge, and facility in applying anti-racism and anti-oppression frameworks within organizations.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Masters or terminal degree; 5 years or more experience w/DEI work. Experience in higher ed. Proven ability to fulfill the NADOHE's Standards; Knowledge of health professions education; Experience in organizational change; budget management experience, recruitment, retention, training; development, implementation, evaluation and facilitation of programs; and Title IX.
