Today’s Youth at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as a Director, Today’s Youth. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2023.
Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in the Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of the Today’s Youth program is responsible on behalf of Morehead State University for developing and writing successful grant applications; negotiating the resulting contracts with the TENCO Workforce Investment Board and other agencies; administering the program in compliance with federal and state regulations and university policies and according to the goals and objectives as stated in the approved contract; designing and implementing program services; and assessing and reporting the program outcomes through KEE Suite, which have the primary purpose of increasing the job readiness of low income, educational disadvantaged, under-employed, and unemployed adults and youth in a 10-county service region of Eastern Kentucky, to the University and to the TENCO Workforce Investment Board. This position directly supervises and trains all staff and develops budgets and authorizes budget expenditures.
REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree with at least two years of experience as a teacher, counselor, social worker, human services professional, or administrator is required. Excellent supervisory, interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills are required. Experience in working with economically or educationally disadvantaged persons is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Certified Workforce Development Professional Certification (CWDP) preferred. Knowledge of computerized database information software and labor market needs is desirable. Previous experience in writing and administering grants, including budget development and management is desired. Experience in adult education, job readiness skills, counseling, short-term job skills training or vocational education is desirable.

Organizational Relationships
The Director of the Today’s Youth Program reports to the Assistant Vice President Regional Education & Outreach. The Director supervises two full-time College & Career Coordinators. This position interacts with the TENCO Workforce Development Board and the area development districts for certification of participants. This position closely interacts with the offices of admission and financial aid and the faculty at Morehead State University to facilitate the successful completion of each participants program. This position interacts with high schools, community agencies, businesses, community and technical colleges, universities and the general public to recruit participants and to place them in meaningful work experiences, college and employment upon completion of the program. This position works closely with Research, Grants, & Contracts and Accounting & Financial Services.

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions
Work is divided between proposal writing, contract negotiation, development of teaching modules and materials for program activities, job development and documentation of student participation. Work hours average 40-50 hours per week. Long hours and high stress can occur when writing grant proposals or meeting external deadlines. Working with low income, long term unemployed students who need extra counseling and advising can lead to stress during the routine of meeting employment opportunities.
